Windows 10: Can't upgrade to 2004 or 20H2

For several months now, I've been getting offered the W10 2004 update, and it's always failed to install. Today I got offered the 20H2 update and that also failed. I've run SetupDiag and the results are:


Error: SetupDiag reports rollback failure found.
Last Phase = Finalize
Last Operation = Remove System Restore checkpoints
Error = 0xC1900101-0x20017


Searching online seems to indicate this may be a driver issue, but as far as I know all my drivers are up to date, and I have no old or obscure devices connected. I do dual-boot with Fedora, and have noticed that every time after a failed attempt, the UEFI boot order gets changed to Windows-first, and I have to manually change it back to Fedora to get my usual boot menu.


I can't see what's wrong from any of the captured log files, but I don't really know what I'm looking for. I did notice one failure in setupapi.upgrade.log related to Realtek network drivers, so upgraded those to the latest from their site, 10.45. This didn't help, and the log entry for the failure is dated 2020/09/21, so I'm not even sure this is in any way related.

1909 to 2004 upgrade

The 20H2 iso is available for download (see News section), so that naturally 'includes' 2004. This is a step preceding 20H2 becoming available by Windows Update in place of 2004; presently you'd be offered 2004 by WU then the 20H2 enablement package. All downloads are available following the relevant article in the News section.

It's an evolving scenario following the pattern of 1903/1909.

I just upgraded my desktop PC from v1909 to v2004 and had two issues:

1. Couldn't log on to Cortana with my usual MS account - Strange Cortana Login Issue
2. PUA option turned off in Defender settings with the notice this setting is managed by your administrator. Solved by running this file available on the forum Default_allow_set_Windows_Defender_PUA_in_Windows_Security.reg

 

Updating Win 10 1909 to 20H2 directly, will there be any problems?

Hi, just got a new ssd installed, and my local vendor installed the 1809 version in my system. I updated the software to 1909 but there is no update for ver 2004 under Update and Security in settings. I couldn't find any update assistant of 2004, but the
one for 20H2 is available. Is it fine if I directly upgrade to ver 20H2? Will there be any issue or should I upgrade to 2004?
