  1. Can't update. Half of keyboard no longer works. Some settings controlled by your organisation.

Windows Specifications -Windows 10 Education -Version 1803 -OS build 17134.706

Laptop unable to update. Last checked 14-May-2019.

When I was given the laptop by my organisation, I was switched to the "Help" user. I'm no longer in my previous organization but settings are still by them. Don't know how to change that.

    Policies set on device:-

Internet Update Service for detecting updates

Auto Reboot will not happen with logged on users

    Set automatic Update options

    Allow Non-Mocrosoft Signed Updates.

Initially, Fn button stopped working. Then random characters stopped functioning but worker after restarting. Now, more characters are out of order and I can't get them to work no more.

I suspect windows updates may have to do with the issues I'm facing.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

After the latest Windows Update, brightness control and custom keyboard shortcuts no longer function

    Acer 1810TZ

64 bit OS and processor (4GB)

    Windows 10 Pro

    Version 1803

    Build 17134.48

    Installed 05/17/2018

    Quality Updates Installed

    • KB4103729
    • KB4103721
    Definition Updates Installed

    • KB2267602

Like the subject says, I've lost brightness control as well as custom keyboard shortcuts I had setup to start programs (Ctrl + Alt + [letter]). I just discovered the latter not working. Brightness control no longer works with function key shortcut, icon
in the notification panel, or adjusting the brightness slider in Settings.

Note that Windows key shortcuts DO work. Volume control DOES work with function key, system tray icon slider, etc.

I've tried the following to no avail:

    • updating display and monitor drivers as well as switching to the basic Microsoft display.
    • uninstalling update
    • reinstalling the update
    • the old voodoo trick of rebooting at each of the above steps

I'm at a loss as to what to try or what to even what to search for at this point. Thanks for your help!

  3. half of keyboard not working

    Hello,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I request you to use the On Screen Keyboard and check if that helps to login.

After you login, I request you to update the driver.

Uninstall and Reinstall the Keyboard Drivers.

    Step 1: Uninstall the Keyboard
    Drivers

    • Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard.

    • Click on “Device Manager” from that list.

    • Search for the Keyboard
from the device list, right click on it and then select “Uninstall”. On the un-installation window, if you have an option: “Delete the driver software for this device” you may select that and then remove the corrupted drivers
      from the computer.

    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete it and then restart the computer if prompted.
After the restart, please go ahead with the next steps to install the latest drivers and check if that resolves the issue.

Update Driver Software from the Manufacturer’s website:

Step 2: Go to the Computer
manufacturer’s website and search for the latest Windows 10 drivers available for the
Keyboard and then install it by following the instructions given in the website.

If you still have the issue, install the drivers in compatibility mode.

Download the drivers from manufacture's website for Windows 10, if there no drivers available for Windows 10, download the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website and
try installing it in compatibility mode.
Compatibility mode runs the program using settings from a previous version of Windows.

Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

    • Download the driver from the manufacturer’s website.
    • Right-click on the driver setup file and click on
      ‘properties’
      .
    • Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box
‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation.
    • Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Keyboard not working after Windows 10 Update

Have you tried updating the mouse and keyboard drivers? If not, we suggest you to do so. And if the updates are
already installed, kindly check if there is an exclamation mark in the Device Manager under the keyboard section. To check it, please follow these steps:

    • Go to
      Control Panel
      and open
      Device Manager.

    • Right-click
      on the
      Keyboard USB device.

    • If you see that there is a
exclamation mark, please post a screenshot of the error message.

We'll be waiting for your response.

    Regards.
