  1. Have to click middle mouse button on any window first before I can interact

Sorry for the confusing title, but here’s an explanation of my issue:

Recently on my computer, I’ve noticed that when I click the left mouse button over a different app I am not currently “clicked into”, nothing happens. I have to click the middle mouse button first then I can interact with that new window. For example, if I’m in Firefox browsing and want to access my file explorer, I have to middle click the bottom dock, left click the file explorer button, middle click that window, then I can look through my files; it’s honestly quite annoying. This issue also persist within apps too, and is sometimes more annoying, for example within windows settings, I have to search then tab and spacebar/enter to turn on and off settings rather than just clicking my way through.

I was able to deal with it for a while but at this point it’s starting to slow down my workflow.

I like to think I’m pretty tech savvy but for the life of me I cannot figure out what is wrong with this. I’ve tried different mice and this mouse on different computers, the problem persist on this computer with any mouse and my main mouse works fine with other computers. I’ve tried reassigning the mouse buttons, tried turning on/off “ClickLock”, updating windows, updating drivers...

Does anyone have an idea on what my problem is and how to fix it? Or a point in the right direction if this is the wrong sub?

    Thank you guys very much

  2. How to disable middle mouse button 'Windows Search'

    Hello,

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

I would like to ask you:

    • Which mouse are you using?
    • Have you installed any mouse utility for the same?
Try to restore the defaults for the mouse settings.

    http://www.microsoft.com/enable/training/windows8/change-mouse.aspx

    (Holds good for Windows 10)

You may also try to map the middle mouse button to something else, then map it back to what it was previously.

Hope this information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance. We'll be glad to assist you.

    Thank you

  3. Mouse cursor becomes tiny when clicking middle mouse button

    Setup:

    • High PPI monitor (4K resolution, 15 inches), scaling set to 250%
    • Windows 10
    • Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 mouse
    • "Windows Black (large)" cursor scheme
Whenever I click the middle mouse button on my Intellimouse the mouse cursor suddenly becomes tiny. This problem can be temporarily resolved by opening Mouse Properties and changing the Cursor Scheme.

Is there a permanent solution to my problem?

This is mouse cursor at normal size:

And this is the same cursor after I click the middle mouse button:

(The screenshots will naturally be very large as they're taken on a high PPI monitor.)

  4. Have to click middle mouse button on any window first before I can interact

Windows 10: Middle Mouse Button is somehow being mapped to open the Windows Start Menu!!??

With respect I belive your suggestions would have merit were some mouse functionality not working. But in fact every single feature is working: the pointer moves. Left and right buttons work as expected. It can even scroll correctly with the wheel. And
the middle-button event is recognized. The only problem is that it is either understood to be a command to open the Windows Start Menu, or it is being translated into a Left Windows Key event.

In fact further testing suggest it's being turned into a Left Windows Key event. For instance pressing Left Windows Key, then X gives you the Quick Link menu. Likewise, pressing (but not releasing) my middle mouse button then X gives me the Quick Link
menu too. In short, it's not just as if middle-mouse button is opening the start menu, as this "chording" with the X key shows.
