System Interrupts - Problem or Symptom?

1 If your computer is still supported by its maker, are there any BIOS updates available? They can have significant effects on hardware.

2 Do bear in mind that the excessive** system interrupts problem might be caused by a misbehaving driver rather than an outdated driver. Checking for updates will have no effect in such cases but reinstalling existing drivers might. At the very least, I would suggest reinstalling each third-party driver just to eliminate driver faults as a cause.

3 I agree that stating your system specs could help. If other users recognise particular hardware that causes problems they might be able to suggest solutions or workarounds.

4 Do you have any particularly old hardware that might finally have been rendered fully or partially incompatible with the latest Windows updates?

5 Do have a look at the discussions I linked you to because one of them might help in isolating the cause of the problem.

6 What changes preceded the onset of the problem?

[** System interrupts are normal & they are essential. System interrupts that cause slow system performance by loading its resources are 'excessive' and it is those that my comments refer to.]

    strange interrupts

when i start my system, everything will run just fine. but after some time (anything up to a few hours) something strange begins to happen and it won't stop until i reboot the system. i first noticed that my screen saver seemed to lag. it would be slower than normal for about 2 seconds, then 2 seconds of normal speed and so on. i checked the task manager and saw that System was jumping between 0 and 20 though no application was running or showing cpu usage.

then i got process explorer that folds System up into Interrupts and DPCs.
take a look at the pictures. it seems the system gets an interrupt every 1 or 2 seconds, then spends some time working it off.

so far i was unable to force this behavior, running every application i usually use. still, in the end i get it every day.

how can i tell what interrupts are called and which device is allocated to them?
    does anyone have any ideas?

oh and the harddrive doesn't do anything all the time.

    i'm running an
    a8v deluxe
    athlon64 3500+
    sapphire x800 pro vivo 16
    2x spinpoint 120 as raid 0

    then there's
    zone alarm security suite and
screen manager for LCD for my eizo l778

the problem is i can't turn something off to see if everything works, because it can take very long until something happens.

System Reserved Partition on Disk 1 not Disk 0

The results were the same as before: Windows is installed in a single 477 GB partition on Disk 0 and the System Reserved is in a 500 MB partition on Drive 1. The rest of Drive 1 is unallocated. This is identical to the configuration I had when I asked the
    question.

The Media Creation Tool used to created the install ISO DVD is v. 10.0.14393 downloaded on 12/13/2016.

    I followed your instructions:

    • I selected Drive 0 and deleted the existing Windows partition.
    • I clicked New and Apply. Windows then formatted Drive 0 as a single primary partition.
    • The existing System Reserved partition was still on Drive 1.
    • So I deleted the System Reserved partition on Drive 1 and the just created Primary partition on Drive 0
    • I then selected Drive 0 and clicked New and Apply again. Same result a single Primary partition on Drive 0. Drive 1 was left unallocated.
    • Upon completion of the install
      • Windows occupies about 15 GB in the only partition on Drive 0
      • The 500 MB System Reserved partition was placed on Drive 1
      • The rest of Drive 1 is unallocated.

How can I get the System Reserved partition to be placed as the Partition 1 on Drive 0 with Windows installed in Partition 2?

    Thanks.
