  1. How to get the "Which device did you plug in?" pop up?

When I first got this laptop every time my headphones got plugged in a pop-up would come up asking what device I plugged in. I got tired of selecting it every time the jack game out so I hot do not show again. I accidently hit that I was plugging in a headset when I actually am plugging in headphones. So I can't get the internal mic working on the laptop so I can not use a mic on this computer.

    Thanks,

    Matt

Computer Won't Auto Change the Playback Device When Headphones Plugged In/Out

    Hi Michael,

I understand your concern and will be happy to assist you.

Is the issue specific to only Headphones/ Does External Speaker play when plugged in?

I suggest you to try resetting the default device as shown in the steps given below and check if the issue persists.

    • Plug in the Headphones in the machine.

    • Go to Start and Control Panel.

    • Select 'Hardware and Sound'.

    • Click 'Change system sounds'.

    • Click 'Playback' tab. (It should then show you your headphones in the list).

    • Select your proper Headphone device from the list, then Click 'Set Default'.

    • Now unplug your Headphones and select speakers from the list, then Click 'Set Default'.
Hope it helps. Please reply for further queries on this.

  3. Does windows 10 recognize when earphones are plugged in?

    Hi Mike,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. Appreciate your interest in using Windows 10.

I would like to inform that Windows 10 does recognize and display a prompt when earphones are plugged in. I would like to ask if you are able to listen to sound from the earphone when plugged in.

I suggest you to run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by following the steps below:

    • Type “Troubleshooting” on the search bar and press Enter.
    • Click on “Hardware and Devices”.
    • A pop-up will appear, click on the “Next” button and your hardware troubleshooting will start.

Hope the information is helpful. Feel free to write to us for any other assistance with Windows, we’ll be glad to assist you.

  4. How to get the "Which device did you plug in?" pop up?

USB device not recognized - With no USB devices plugged in

I do have a cable sitting here to plug my phone in, but I unplugged everything and the message still popped up. It's gone away since, so either it was a software glitch corrected in the Windows update or, as you suggested, some small debris made its way into and now out of a port.
