  1. Audio Dropouts with Asus Xonar SE 5.1 and Windows 10

I'm currently trying to set up a soundcard I purchased.

I'm setting up a pc using an ASUS Rampage Extreme motherboard, and a Core 2 Quad 9660K

The original Rampage Extreme board would come with an Asus sound riser in a PCI slot, but as I purchased this board used I don't have that original component, so I need to use a different sound card.

I've bought an Asus Xonar PCIe 5.1 sound card, updated to the most current drivers, but I am experiencing audio dropouts. They range from anywhere from 2 seconds to 10 seconds, and happen at random intervals, the longest it's gone is 5 minutes between dropouts, but this is incredibly frustrating.

I've tried so many different combinations of rollback drivers, drivers that came with the sound card, the microsoft drivers, and some odd things happen.

I eventually in my frustration gave up, and completely formatted my drive, and reinstalled windows with the most current windows installer, and to my avail even with a brand new fresh installation of windows 10, no combination of drivers will work without these intermittent dropouts.

I then assumed that the card was faulty, and returned it to the store, and brought home another one.

Same issues, therefore I've eliminated it being a hardware issue, this must be a windows driver compatability issue.

Are other users reporting similar issues with the Xonar SE? I've seen one other post exclaiming the exact same issues.

I am presently using it with analog output to a pair of stereo desktop speakers, under the default windows settings with no sound effects or processing, but trying to play movies or music still results in the dropouts, and I'm now under the impression I should bite the bullet, return this card and pay the restocking fees, and find a card whose drivers actually work with windows 10. Are there any other things I can try before this costs me yet again more money, just to fix this sound issue?

    :)

Windows 10 - 64bit Fall Creators Update Auto changing ASUS Xonar Audio Bit-depth?

To get straight to it, the issue is whenever the sound icon in the Windows taskbar tray is clicked, Windows will automatically change my ASUS Xonar DX's bit depth, in Windows sound properties, from 24bit - 96khz to 16bit - 96khz. This also changes my audio
channels in the Xonar DX Audio Center from 8 to 2. This happens only once after first booting into Windows and happens every time.

This issue has been seemingly common as of lately amongst ASUS Xonar sound card users. Specifically listed hereon the Xonar Uni drivers website, under:

"Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (version 1709)

    • Default format(bit-depth and sample rate) from Windows Volume->Playback devices and the number of audio channels resets each time the Windows Volume icon is clicked (#1, #2).
Anyone affected should report the issue to Microsoft."

So, if this can be forwarded to the Windows 10 technicians and developers, that would be appreciated.

Xonar SE soundcard audio stutters (WIN10 1809 vs 1903)

Thought I would update this with the "results" in case anyone lands here from a search...

Well, after a month of back and forth with Asus 'support', here is their solution for the two different receivers (Yamaha and Sony) I have available...

Asus: "Please be advised that Optical out cut is because there will be some noise when start output in some situation to, so we mute about 0.x second.
We suggest if you want to connect to Yamaha RX-V375, you can use HDMI.
    "

Cool, so buy a bunch of HDMI cables and use my Video Card for audio and have no monitor display unless my receiver is on to pass it through.
IE: don't use the Asus Xonar SE I just bought.

Asus: "If you want to connect SONY STR-DE945, you can use analog output or use your Realtek optical output.
And about the driver reset when boot, it should be only happen he close the sleep of win10 (the default shut down is hibernate ) Did you close the sleep in power option? Xonar SE use the same connect for Headphone/speaker , and default is Headphone.
If your win10 sleep when shutdown, the driver will not detect again, the setting will be the same.
If your win10 does not sleep when shutdown, the driver will detect every boot.
    "

I do a full shut down without sleep or hibernate. The driver resets to things that are not even connected (SPDIF/Headphones, or my other USB Headphone) rather than what is connected "Speakers".
Solution? Use onboard Realtek optical (does not exist on my board) audio or the Xonar SE analog and listen to the stuttering, dropout mess all day.
IE: don't use the Asus Xonar SE I just bought.

Wow. Just wow. That's like Chevy telling me to just drive my 1972 Ford Pinto because the brand new Chevy Camaro I just bought needs a recall. So all I can say is avoid those Asus sound cards like the plague if you are researching buying one. The goal was to use digital/optical out, but I'm back to my onboard Realtek Audio via analog output and it works perfectly...for what it is.

Asus Xonar D2 won't install in Win 10

    Hi Podge,

Sorry for the delay in reply.

What happens when you try to install the software?

I suggest you to re -install the software and check.

Try the following steps to un-install:

    • Right click on Start menu, click Programs and features
    • Select Asus Xonar D2 highlight it and uninstall
    • Now download and -reinstall the software and check if that helps.

    Thanks,
