Windows 10: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED error on fresh install, even happened during initial setup

Hi there, hoping you can help.


I performed a windows update and started to get the Kmode_exception_not_handled error shortly after boot.


I attempted several reinstallations of Windows, including formatting the drive and start fresh, the error occasionally came up during the install and 'setup' stages, eventually after a few tries managing to get to the desktop but still comes up with the error anytime between a second and 5 minutes after boot.


I've turned off quick boot and all drivers seem to be up to date. I've run a memory diagnostic overnight and it shows up with no errors, and tried taking out RAM sticks and running them individually. I've also tried removing the hard drive i was installing on and installing on another drive but same issue.


Installation wise I downloaded a version from the May update and the recent October update but both installs do the same.


If this is a hardware issue that's understandable as its all about 9 years old, but would like to be more certain of this before replacing it. If any more info is needed let me know. Thanks

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED on fresh install. Safe mode works fine.

Error: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
This is a fresh install of windows. The only thing that has been installed is the video card driver & software.

Note: I can only run windows in normal mode for a couple minutes before I get BSOD. The included log .zip file is while I am in safe mode. I DO NOT GET BSOD IN SAFE MODE.

Things I have already tried:

• Uninstalling then updating my video card drivers.
• Clean boot.
• Removing any unnecessary hardware e.g. web cam, card reader

I still hit the same error every time. Sometimes the BSOD comes in a few seconds, other times I can use my PC for up to 10 minutes before getting it. Usually it is sometime in 3-5 minutes after logging into Windows.
Originally I was getting this BSOD error and in my troubleshooting I made things worse to the point my drive would not launch windows and all repair attempts failed. So I gave up and used my other hard drive and did a fresh install of Windows. I am getting the same error that I was before, KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.

I have done various troubleshooting steps but am willing to start from scratch to narrow down if this is hardware and if so what piece of hardware.

For context here is some of the programs I have tried and the summarized outcome:

• Driver Verifier - No issues
• sfc - corrupt files detected that were unrepairable (CBS LogCBS Log.txt)
• dism - no corruption detected

The KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED bug check has a value of 0x0000001E. This indicates that a kernel-mode program generated an exception which the error handler did not catch.

I suggest you to refer the link suggested by

Wi-Fi requires browser login Windows 10 initial setup

To better assist you, we would like to know more information regarding this issue. Kindly answer the following:

• Since it is the initial setup, have you tried skipping the step of connecting your PC to WiFi, or is there no option to do that?
• If you already skipped this step, what is the default browser that you're currently using?
• Does this only happen when trying to connect to a specific WiFi hotspot?
