    How to check microsoft account privileges on machine

    Good afternoon,

    I have a HP Z640 workstation. I found that after some windows updates, the machine was slow to respond to any inputs mouse, keyboard etc.. I uninstalled the most recent updates, and that fixed the problem, though there was a message akin to "Your update settings are managed by your organisation".

    I paused all updates, but found today, it had installed updates again! I had gone into the registry and disbaled automatic updates using group policy;

    "gpedit.msc -> Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Configure Automatic Updates = disabled"

    However, as I said, updates were still installed. I have somehow ended up with my universities microsoft account on the computer? I think I accepted the dialog to add the email, but declined anything else. How can I check if the university account is managing update settings? And how can I fully block all windows updates until I choose to install them, as the current ones are causing 70% CPU usage on 2 x Xeon E5-2680 V3's!!!

    Many Thanks,

    Ross

    :)

    Should my Microsoft Account have administrator privileges?

    I just finished reinstalling Windows 10 (Creator version) and decided to have the installation process create a Microsoft Account instead of bypassing that step like I have on other laptops in the past and creating a local account later. After the install I went to Accounts in the settings and saw that the Microsoft Account was listed as an Administrator. I always thought the main user should only have standard privs for security purposes. Thoughts? Should I create a new admin account and try and change the MSA to a standard account?
