Windows 10: Reallocate space for new partitions

Hello Microsoft Community,


I'm trying to reallocate some space for a new partition but not able to; it's a new laptop and apparently the full space as allocated to Drive C and there's no unallocated space left.


Please let me know if anyone has faced this issue and what's the remedy?

REALLOCATE SPACE BETWEEN EXISTING PARTITIONS ON EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE - WINDOWS 10

I am using a 5 TB external hard drive with 4 partitions. At the time I set this up, I estimated how much space I would need for each one.

Now I realize that I over estimated the space needed on 2 partitions and can foresee the need for more space in at least one, maybe two, of the other partitions. All 4 of the partitions contain data.

Is there a way to reallocate the space and not loose any data, or at least not have to save it and put in back in later?

In case this makes any difference, I have so much data in two of my partitions that I really don't want to have to save it and put it back in after I get my space reallocated. There is one partition that I could erase entirely. There is one other partition
that I would be willing to save all the data and also created unallocated space on it as well, if it would make a difference in whether I can reallocate space in each of the partitions.

Am I wanting to do the impossible?

 

Reallocating Disk Space

I have 2TB of storage divided into two drives, C and D. I continue to get messages that I'm running out of disk space on drive C (currently allocated at 118 GB) so I tried to shrink drive D (with 1.4 TB of available space) in order to expand drive C. The
process of shrinking drive D worked per MS guidance but when I went to reallocate the freed up space to expand drive C the "expand" command was shadowed out and I was unable to expand drive C. Am I missing something in the mechanics of reallocating space?
Has anyone experienced a similar problem and, if so, can you share how this can be facilitated?

 

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that
