    Hi,

    my computer was fine on Thursday and on Friday, it would not start. I had not turned it off so I assumed Windows did an update or something that turned it off so that was the first question. Then it went into start loop. I tried following all the instructions and got into recovery mode but it said it couldn't fix it; there was no restore point so that wouldn't work; it said there were no updates to remove. It just seemed to be stuck. Meanwhile, my husband opened it and attached some gadget he has to the hard drive thinking he would salvage whatever files I had on it before we tried a restore. He sees my user name but each file such as documents or photos etc. all say 0 bytes. He thinks all files have been wiped. I don't understand how that could happen. Are the files somewhere else? I would really like to save whatever files I have there before I go any further. And is it a software issue with windows? The computer starts. The Lenovo logo comes up but then it gets stuck as if there's no windows. Or is it a hardware issue and the hard drive is shot? Any help you can give me is appreciated. I'm not a computer geek by any stretch. [Nor is my husband. Now that he took my computer apart, he is lost as to what to do next!] So please dumb-down your answer for me! Thanks

    Why did the startup window get cleared?

    I didn't missed any step, the list was gone and gone , even after using lot of programs the programs were not listed in that list.

    Thanks, guys. It worked. I deleted the files in the folder as you suggested and now those apps are gone from the start list. Start Loop and files gone :)

    I MOVED a directory from one W2K PC to another. However, the target PC (which has a backup unit on it and thus the point of the move) crashed halfway through the move and I had to reboot. I then decided that I needed to sort out why the PC crashed and MOVED the directory back again.

    However, in the process, most of the files have disappeared! What I don't understand is why the original files were deleted if they were not copied over.

    As far as I can see, the files have gone for good. Is there any hope? Friend suggest Data Recovery Wizard, can I try that?
