  1. Runtime broker exe suddenly uses a lot of memory 800 MB - which app is the culprit?

    Hi,

I'm on the latest update of Windows 10 but one 2004, build 19041.630, and since a few weeks the Windows RuntimeBroker.exe has started to eat quite a lot of memory. From what I have found so far, this process is related to UWP formerly Metro apps . I don't use those apps at all, and RuntimeBroker.exe has never bothered me before. The Microsoft support says to kill the process and restart the PC. I've done that and nothing has changed.

Not to my surprise, I'm afraid to say - those pages help solve hardly any problems at all. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/runtime-broker-is-using-too-much-memory-ca6ed4e3-2a36-964c-4d2e-8c93980d8a98

The only thing that seems to be different on my PC is that 2 HP helper applications HP Smart and HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows appear to be UWP apps which I didn't realize because I didn't install them from the Microsoft Store.

    My question:

Is there a way to establish which process causes RuntimeBroker to misbehave?

Of course I can find this out by elimination, and I will certainly try that with the 2 relatively new apps mentione above. However, there may be a better way I don't know about which might be able to help others as well.

    Cheers,

    Django

    :)

  2. system guard runtime monitor broker using a lot of memory

Recently I have noticed that system guard runtime monitor broker has been using a lot of memory. Restarting my computer temporally fixes a problem but after a few hours it's back to using a lot of memory. I know it should use about 1.2 mb of memory where
mine is using over a 100 mb. Is there a way to fix this?

    Thanks in advance

  3. Runtime Broker uses CPU and Memory when the Windows Store Facebook app is run

    Hi Gordon,

Please be informed that Runtime Broker is a Windows process in Task Manager that helps manage permissions on your PC for apps from Windows Store. It ideally uses a few megabytes of memory, but in some cases, a faulty app might cause Runtime Broker to
    use up more.

Stop runtime broker from Task manager, and try to run App troubleshooter and check:

    Try the followings steps:

    • Click "Search" and type "Troubleshooting" without quotes and hit enter.

    • Click “Hardware and Sound”

    • Select Windows store apps.

    • Click next to run the troubleshooter.
Please post back with the updated status to assist you further.

    Thank you.
