What does the cpu max thing in power plan settings even do? I set it to 80% max, but task manager showed it caps at 63%, and 2.27 GHz (normally it caps at 100% and 3.8Ghz). Then I changed max to 90, and 99% even, but it always caps at 63% and 2.27GHz. When I change it from 99 to 100 %, it just goes back to normal.

  2. CPU at 99%

    Hello,

To better assist you with your concern, we would like to ask you a few questions:

    • When you start your computer, is the CPU usage already at 99%?
    • Do you have programs on your startup items?

    Regards.

Overclock cpu max frequency constantly changing in task manager

    Hi,

I'm overclocking my Intel 8700k to 5Ghz and every time I check the current frequency in task manager the max is constantly changing. I have high-performance power settings on windows enabled and I have also disabled CPU state and Intel SpeedStep in the BIOS.
I also noticed that when using other tools to display my GPU and CPU performance they show my CPU max frequency is exactly 5Ghz, why does Task Manager constantly display a constantly changing frequency?

    Any suggestions?

    Much appreciated

Set CPU max to 99%, but it caps at 63% instead.

Windows 10 only use half of max cpu speed

for intel processors, try this instead. go into your device manager and open up the processor tree, and update the driver to the one labeled 'processor'. you must do this for every core listed in the tree, or it will not work. the CPU will still be identified
the same in the device manager, but instead of using intelppm.sys it will use processor.sys instead. after reboot on my system, instead of .90 Ghz, my system is now running at 1.60Ghz. my system still isn't turbo boosting to 2.8 Ghz, yet but it's a step in
    the right direction.

I assume that for those with AMD CPU's in the update driver screen instead of the two option being intel process and processor, it would be AMD processor, and processor. if this is the case, then this operation should work for AMD cpu's as well
