  1. [Discussion] USB Suspend Settings / USB Power Management are problematic

I just got a new PC with fresh settings about two month ago. Thinking fresh system should have no issue on most of the thing, I naively plug my old keyboard (a MKA-3C) into the new PC.

Before anything, the keyboard has no issue on the old PC, even with the keyboard RGB light on.

Now, whenever I am typing, some key will not register occasionally, followed by a a device disconnect -> device connect sound.

To make sure it wasn't the keyboard being faulty, I plug back to the old PC and uses it for couple few days, the keyboard never disconnect on the old PC (Old PC is also a Win10).

After some googling, it appears to be a power management issue :https://pocketables.com/2016/04/fix-windows-10-keyboard-disconnecting.html

    So I did :

    1. In power setting, disable all USB selective suspend settings.
    2. Make sure PC is on high performance mode.
    3. In EVERY USB settings inside device manager, untick allow computer to turn of this device to save power.
    4. Reinstall the Generic USB Hub driver.
    5. Go into registry / power config via cmd to ensure the power profile have the correct "USB selective suspend settings"

This solution worked for many people, unfortunately, this doesn't work on my new PC. I can still hear disconnection sound for nearly every minutes, and a few keystroke will not register. I can however, off the RBG light on the keyboard, the disconnection is less frequent, but I am still getting them. This is not tolerable during gaming, it is also not tolerable during coding.

Now, a few question to Microsoft people :

    1. Is there event logger / event viewer setting to tell WHICH devices are frequently turned off / on - there are logs when you INSTALL a new device, but not via disconnecting?
    2. Why is it so persistent and power down my USBs and disrespect to the settings?

and also to everyone who might experienced in this. Is there potential solution I might be missing out to try to get rid of the issue? Get rid of existing keyboard could be one of it, but I cant be sure the next keyboard doesn't have this issue.

    USB HUB

    Hi,

Incompatible USB hub driver is one of the possible reasons why this issue is happening. We recommend uninstalling the USB Root Hub driver and see if it helps. Follow the stepes below:

    • Open Device Manager.
    • Double-click Universal Serial Bus controllers to expand.
    • Right-click USB Root Hub, then click Properties.
    • Go to the Driver tab.
    • Click Uninstall.
    • Restart your computer.
Note: Restarting your computer will automatically reinstall a generic driver for your computer. Also, we suggest connecting your USB hub while performing the steps.

If the issue still persists, let's disable the USB selective suspend settings thru Power Options to resolve the issue. Follow the steps below:

    • Type Power Options in the search box, then press Enter.
    • Locate USB settings > USB selective suspend settings.
    • Select Disable.

Keep us in the loop with the result.
