remove then unlink device from microsoft account

the instructions say to 1st remove the device from the account i'm gifing this computer and it's copy of windows 10

so i removed the device - no problem

the instructions then say to "unlink" the device giving the same web address as the previous instructions

but now, of course the device is not there...

so, how is the "unlinking" done now?

pretty wack job if you ask me....

here's the instructions from this page:

Remove a device from your Microsoft account
After you've backed up and reset your device, you should remove it from your Microsoft account. Here's how:

    1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/devices, sign in, and find the device you want to remove.

    2. Select Show details to see info for that device.

    3. Under your device's name, select More actions > Remove.

    4. Review your device details, select the box for I'm ready to remove this device, then selectRemove.

You can then unlink the device from your Microsoft account so it doesn't affect your Microsoft Store device limit:

    1. Sign in with your Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com/devices.

    2. Find the device you want to remove and select Unlink.

    3. Review your device details and select Unlink.

  3. Unlink an old android phone from my pc

I go thru the suggested steps: Start - Settings - Phone - Unlink this PC.

When I first open the "your phone" screen the old phone is listed. Not sure if the phone listed is suppose to be selectable or not, but my is not. When I select "Unlink this PC" the phone listed is removed. When I select "Add Phone" the old phone still
shows. I have removed the old phone from my Microsoft Account. I have rebooted after unlink this pc but I still cannot remove my old phone.
