Windows 10: After update on 28/11/2020 cannot get sound using HDMI cable with tv- worked fine before

I have looked at various options online to set the HDMI cable as the default sound device when it is connected but it does no seem to be recognised- neither can I see any related drivers in device manager. I am running Windows 10 with the latest updates on HP Pavilion laptop- can you help?


I use this facility regularly to watch online shows via my TV with no problem until this recent update.

sound with hdmi cable

I connected my computer with an hdmi cable to my tv and the display and sound worked fine. But every time that I wake my computer up after that I have no sound unless I disconnect and then reconnect the hdmi cable to the tv. How can this be resolved without
having to reconnect my tv every time?

 

Can't get sound through HDMI cable

I just upgraded to Windows 10 and can no longer get sound through my HDMI cable. The video works fine. I am on a Dell laptop and a Panasonic Viera TV. When I go to the start menu and go to sound, it says Realtek High Definition Audio output as a playback
device but there is nothing about HDMI. (Other posts/replies seem to suggest that HDMI should be listed.) I am not terribly sophisticated with this stuff so a simple solution would be much appreciated.

 

Why exactly is ATi considered be better at HDMI?

Sound works fine only issue with me is underscan when connecting to my tv.
