A question for those of you with a large sample size, lets say 10 or more units , is windows 10 trustworthy yet?

Im aware there are plenty of people who have maybe one or two machines and will answer with "I havent had any issues". But im moreso looking for opinions from those with a larger sample size as they'll have far more information and possibly variations of hardware to form an opinion from.

    Extra fluff:

As of right now my main rig still uses windows 7 and I purposely avoided windows 10 due to quite frequently seeing many news articles about updates needing rollbacks as they would cause serious issues. Im well aware the actual quality control team at microsoft that used to test updates previously has long been disolved.

I have no real concerns currently using windows 7 as I fall out of the guidelines from what could be considered a "normal user". The machine does no form of online banking or money transactions or anything important enough to be considered a desirable target. Not to mention 2 or 3 years ago I was urged to update to windows 10 or I would be seriously at risk. Well its been 2 or 3 years and nothing has changed. The machine doesnt even receive normal updates and it runs exactly the same. Not to mention I have a backup C drive that is air gapped in the event that I do get some form of virus. However ive never needed to use it.

I have attempted a windows 10 install before on the machine. But the biggest issue I noted was that the os has zero effect on anything. The machine ran exactly the same as 7 so I opted to conclude my test with just sticking with 7 and taking advantage of my unique situation that allows the consistency of the performance remain unchanged.

I know its weird to favor consistancy over 10s security features that I dont need. But honestly having a machine that is EXACTLY the same every day for well over 6 years...... has just been a dream come true for me.

  2. Windows 10 Scan App - PDF File Sizes Too Large

    Hi Teja,

There are several reasons why the scanned file as PDF gets too large. Here are the most common causes:

    • Dot Per Inch (DPI) - Most scanners will use 300 DPI for scanning images, which is the minimum DPI for the images that were printed after scanning. However, 72 DPI should be already enough for a PDF that is for screen reading.
    • Saving the document as colored - Use black and white instead of color when scanning images to lessen file size. Make sure that any color settings such as
      Color Depth are also decreased.
If the suggestions have been tried but the PDF file size is still too large, the next option is to check the PDF software that is performing the conversion itself.

Let us know if you were able to lessen the PDF file sizes using the suggestions above or if you need further assistance.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
