Buggy monitor 55bd7663-4708-4d40-9c2e-4abe828b852f?upload=true.png I have a Dell XP-13 9300 laptop that is a few months old.

Since I often use my laptop as a desktop, I keep the lid closed and look at my attached monitor rather than the laptop screen. To do this I have chosen these Windows settings so that I can use my monitor in this way: UnderPower Options, for “Choosing what closing the lid does” “When I close the lid,” for both On Battery and Plugged In, I have selected “Do Nothing.”

The laptop is connected to an AOC i2367F 23" monitor IPS Frameless LED-Lit, Full HD 1080p, 5ms, 50M:1 DCR, VGA/ DVI through aVAVA USB C Hub 9-in-1 USB C Adapter.

The connection is from the DVI port on the AOC monitor to an HDMI port on the VAVA, and then from the VAVA to the laptop through a Thunderbolt connector.

For about 2 months, this worked perfectly well. Then, about a month ago, the connection became buggy. At least every few days, the monitor screen would become periodically distorted see screen shots attached. Also very often when I tried to type into, for example, a search box on a web site, no text would initially appear, and then, all of a sudden, text would jump onto the screen, as if it were waiting until I finished typing to appear on the monitor screen.

One screenshot attachment shows a distorted Amazon search page; another, Wikipedia.

This problem might last for a few minutes or longer. It goes away on its own, and then reappear at some other time or day. I’ve tried restarting the laptop but that doesn’t seem to immediately fix the problem.

Initially, I thought the problem must be with my monitor or perhaps the physical connection with the VAVA hub, but I doubt that for these reasons:

    1. The problem occurs only when I am on the web, largely when I try to input information. For example, if I was typing into a search box on Wikipedia as in the Wikipedia photo attached, either I couldn’t input information, or the visual image was distorted. Most of the time on my laptop I am using Microsoft Word or Excel or Notes, and the problem NEVER occurs when I am using them or, for example, File Explorer. Only, it seems, when I am on a web site.

    2. If I partially open my laptop, the distortion on the monitor goes away although it is not full-screen, which leads me to think the problem is not necessarily the physical connection. Occasionally, when I will try to look at a website see the first Lowes screenshots the image will disappear with my laptop lid is closed, but reappear if I partially open my laptop lid and still look at my monitor see second Lowes screenshot.

    :)
