Windows 10: USB - No access

Hi Guys

I'm guessing my dad's USB is knackered ! btw he's using Win10

He uses it to keep epub books on it. Plugged it in yesterday, the drive is recognised, the light on the flashdrive flashes constantly but no access to any files on there.

I've tried it in another PC with the same result. Tried to format it and the menu doesn't even come up when I right click.

Was going to format and then do a recovery of it.

Any suggestions or is it easier just to bin it ?? Only thing is he had loads of books on there and can't remember what ! *Banghead

Installing windows off of a USB stick

Step By Step from vista:
From admin cmd prompt

1. diskpart
1a. list disk
2. select disk 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ (d being your vista cd and e being your usb stick)

And that's it, boot off your usb disk

Try the USB device on a different computer.

I do not know which button I punched but my USB's are not accessible. Ex: G:\not accessible access is denied
All suggestions greatly appreciated.
