Windows 10: Error code: 0x8E5E0408 when re-installing the Microsoft Store

I encountered an error when installing an app on the microsoft store which seems to happen sometimes. I was getting the 0x8E5E0408 every time I was trying to install an app.

When looking for a fix I found a help that mentionned that I should reset the app which I did. From that point the store would just not open at all.

I tried re-installing the Microsoft Store package through PowerShell using the following:


Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$$_.InstallLocation\AppXManifest.xml"}


Every time I try installing this it gives me the following:


Add-AppxPackage : Deployment failed with HRESULT: 0x80073CF9, Install failed. Please contact your software vendor.

I would be really grateful if you had both a solution for re-installing the store and also fix the error I was getting when installing an app through the store, without having to either reset Windows or create another user which was also a popular method to fix the apps not installing through the store.


Side note, I also have the following errors which I don't think are related but here they are anyway:

Unable to install Microsoft Jackpot with error code 0x8E5E0408

I am trying to install the Microsoft Jackpot app from the windows store, but every time I try I get the "Something went wrong" message with error code 0x8E5E0408. Any help would be great.

Hello world,

I am trying to download the MineCraft Windows 10 Beta from the Store and I keep getting the error code 0x8e5e0408. I have searched around for a solution and haven't come across anything that works.

That was the post that offered the most options for help and none of them worked for me. I tried the command prompt suggestion and ran into the same thing. I also tried the windows app troubleshooter, but that will not work on windows 10 (yet). Along with
the troubleshooter I tried the various options on http://windows.microsoft.com/en.us/windows-8/what-troubleshoot-problems-app but much of that is only applicable to 8.1.

I have also tried installing other apps after this. They all worked perfectly, so it is solely this one.

Windows Store Won't Install Apps: Error Code 0x8E5E0408

Upon a clean windows 10 installation my username was shortened automatically so that my user directory is something like:

C:\Users\Userna

instead of

C:\Users\Username

I "fixed" the directory following the instructions posted by Annu Singh here:

Now I am unable to install or update any apps in the app store and see the Error Code 0x8E5E0408 and sometimes 0x8E5E0407.
