Windows 10: Displaying day of week on an narrow vertical task bar.

Rick Kelso's Reply on displaying the day of the week on the task bar didn't go quite far enough for what I wanted. With Rick's solution I had to hover over the time display to see the long date format which was set to display both the day and date. I'm retired and do not have to be someplace at a certain time on many days, so it is too easy to lose track of the days of the week :. I want to be reminded whenever I get on the computer.

Adding the "ddd ," format to the short date format worked only if I widened the task bar. Eliminating the "/yyyy" from the short date format did the trick:


Short Date Format: ddd, m/d


Today is 12/1, I hope it still works when it is a double digit day like 12/28.


Note that this solution only works for a vertical task bar.


Note to Microsoft: I wish you would test cases like this. The same problem applies on a horizontal task bar that is only one line tall. My solution on applies to vertical task bars. When working on a laptop, every pixel of height or width is precious.

More custom layout on Task Bar

I use to put the Task Bar on the left of the desktop and strech it wider to see program titles on Task Bar. With a wider Task Bar, it can save more vertical space for program positions with more custom layout.

(1) Custom date time. Now it is time then day of the week then date from top to bottom. With custom date time, we can display them in just one line to save vertical space.

(2) Embed the input method icon into the icon lists, now the single input method icon occupy a whole line.

(3) Grid instead of list for programs. For example, some program don't need its title to be displayed on the Task Bar such as Task Manager/Screen Shot Tool, for such program, with a wide Task Bar, we can put 2 instance per line, e.g. put Task Manager and
Screen Shot Tool on the same line. Even better we can configure this behavior for each program.

 

Win 10 Task bar: Can I add display of day of week?

On the horizontal (normal) orientation I had to drag the taskbar to 3 rows of application icons before the date showed. That is simply too much wasted vertical space on my screen (at 3840X2160) resolution).

When I switch to vertical taskbar there is no adjustment to size I can make to display the day of week at the same resolution.

Yes, I can see the day of week when I click on the calender, but not in the "popup" tooltip that shows when I hover over the calendar part of the taskbar.

 

Eliminate day of week on task bar

I'd like to reduce the task bar height but, Time, Day of Week, and Date take three lines. I'd like to remove Day thereby reducing the height to two lines.

This recently occurred. I think it was from a W10 update.
