  1. File History Catalog and Restoring Backup Image ... What Will Happen?

The Windows 10 File History feature stores the configuration files and catalog files both on the local C: and the File History target drive (correct me if I'm wrong please) and keeps them in sync. Is there any documentation or accounts of what happens when someone restores a backup image of their C:? The backup image would contain a different catalog (and possibly configuration) file for File History than what is stored on the File History target. Is Windows smart enough to check which catalog is newer and use that one? Or will it overwrite the catalog on the target drive (which would result in some lost history). Or does it throw an error?

  2. File History, Image Backup

File History image backup fails to complete as of last Windows update. However, Backup & Restore (Windows 7) image backup works correctly. As a result the backup is on the external hard drive, but I get Notifications on waking up the computer " Check
    your Backup".

File History and Backup & Restore (Windows 7) image backup should be the same.

  3. Difference Between File History, Backup and Restore, System Image, and System Protection (Restore Points)

These feature names itself gives you a hint on their functionality.

File History: It is the complete record of changes made to a file. You can roll back changes and get an older copy of a file.

It is more useful, if your accidently deleted a file or it turned to garbage. You can simple use File History to restore the file.

Backup and Restore: As the name suggests, it is useful to create a system back and restore from a backup already created.

System Image: It is a clone of your C drive in a .vdi (virtual disk file), stored on another drive.

A system image can only be used to reimage the same computer on which it was created.

Tip: You can extract individual files from a System Image by mounting the .vdi with Explorer.

System Restore Point: It is a backup of all your Settings, apps and some other utilities required by Windows.

It is recommended to create a restore point before editing registry, installing a new software, etc.

  4. File History Catalog and Restoring Backup Image ... What Will Happen?

    Restore data from File History

I have been using Windows Image backup and File History to backup my Windows 10 system. I recently had an issue that corrupted my hard drive and I used the Image restore to rebuild the system back to the latest Image backup. That all went fine. However,
when I then tried to Restore Personal Files from the File History utility, it only listed files that were included on the last File History backup created before the image backup. How do I get File History to restore files from the more recent File History
backup on the external drive? Those files do exist as I can see them.
