in-place upgrade is not possible on Win10 1809 to 20H2

    Hello all,

I am stuck with in-place upgrade of Win10 1809 x64 Enterprise. to Win10 20H2 x64 Enterprise on HP laptops with Thunderbolt port. A desktops are not affected. It is basically the same issue as here I see the same error in setup.exe GUI during pre-installation process :

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4592819/error-when-plugging-in-a-thunderbolt-nvme-ssd

The laptop has only LAN cable and power adapter attached TBT port is not in use. All updates and drivers are up to date. Only workaround so far is to disable Thunderbolt port in UEFI, but it does not seem to be "the solution" for me.

    Logs are here: https://www36.zippyshare.com/v/SzpeF9f0/file.html

    Thanks in advance!

    M.

In-place upgrade - XP to 10 without losing the apps

Wolfgang, you need at least two steps (Vista & Seven) between XP and 10, the Eight can be bypassed:
    • XP can only be in-place upgraded to Vista, not Seven or later
    • Vista can be in-place upgraded to Seven but not Eight or later
    • Seven can be in-place upgraded to 10
    • Ergo: XP to Vista is a must, as well as Vista to Seven but then you can bypass the Eight and jump to 10

In-Place-upgrade of Win10, whether to Sysprep or not to move Users

    Kari,

I used your sysprep method in the past to move my Users folder from my SSD to a 2nd HD with a PC on Windows8 and Windows 8.1. I'm now wanting to upgrade-in-place from Win8.1 to Win10 using the Windows update nag option with minimal work.

I've read the EightForums and now TenForum, but am confused about the path foward when using the Windows Update version of Win10 upgrade in place.

    Do I :
    1. Traditional way: Sysprep my Win8.1 to move my users back to SSD from 2nd HD, Upgrade in place to Win10, then Sysprep to move Users back to 2nd HD.
    or
    2. Simple New Way-Upgrade-in-place my Win8.1 to Win10 without relocating Users back from 2nd HD to SSD. As you mention above, build 10162 the in-place upgrade works also with relocated Users folder.

#2 seems easier if its possible. I have not yet had the WUapp download the 3GB of files for the Win10 upgrade, so cannot verify the build number.

    Thanks,
    Steel

20H2 In-place upgrade cant keep personal settings and files on 20H2 clean install

When trying in-place upgrade on a clean windows 10 pro 64 install I cant keep personal settings and files, only option is to keep nothing.

It says maybe my windows is installed in different folder / older version of windows.

    - The same again on a second fresh installation of windows 20h2 on my system.

    - Both on SATA drive and on new clean NvMe in RAID 0 config.

    - Reseting bios does not help

    - sfc, dism, - no change

    - windows is installed in default folder

    - everything was/is on default

    - never had this issues prior to 20H2

    - I use latest 20H2 iso version, downloaded multiple times with same results

Asus rog strix X570-e, ryzen 3600xt, 2xnvme ssd in raid 0, 32 gb ram 3600 mhz, gtx 1080, 2xsata ssd, current build 19042.610
