Windows 10: Your Phone messaging no longer works

That's about it.

If the Your Phone app is opened it will answer the phone, which I do not need or want, but it will not download or send messages which is the only thing I need or want to do with Your Phone.

Until yesterday it worked as well as it ever did, which is about 70% as well as an iPhone in Macos, and that only intermittently.

I gave up my iPhone because I need to work in Windows and naively assumed Your Phone was reliable.

Nothing changed on the phone or the PC unless Microsoft snuck in an update.

The phone is a recent Samsung that has built in connectivity for Windows. Supposedly. Its on the Microsoft list as such supporting all the messaging protocols, except it doesn't.

The Your Phone App Settings/My Devices shows the phone as connected while the phone's Link to Windows shows the phone as disconnected. However the PC is seen as connected via Bluetooth on the phone.

Is a puzzlement.

I followed the many useless suggestions posted by Microsoft that foist complex and useless tasks onto the end user that have never worked in the history of Microsoft non-support. They all have always seemed designed to foist onto the end user what are really inherent problems with shoddy coding or the problems would not have occurred in the first place.

Short of completely reinstalling Windows, not gonna happen, is there a fix that actually works--don't bother to reply if its just a rehash of the useless crud found by a Google or Bing search on Microsoft web pages.

The final frustration: in the dropdown boxes on the bottom of this form there isn't even a specific way to indicate Your Phone is the problem, sic semper Microsoft.

Your Phone Companion is working but often weird

Just more and more "historical" messages. Now, messages I write on the input panel on the right appear in the list on the left but the message I wrote doesn't appear on the right side panel, just more historical messages.

At least the thing seems to work. Sort of two steps forward and three to the left and back.

I wish someone who was a real coder would write a decent app like this, one that was, uh, tested and didn't have an idiotic name like "Your Phone Companion". SIGH.

 

Supported phones for Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview


Your list confirms my phone is eligible, Lumia 521. The windows Insider App fails after ~ 15 seconds, restores data and gives me error 80073cf9. I trouble shot this and went thru all the steps mentioned on several websites including MS without any luck. Short of a hard reset, this is where I am now. Suggestions appreciated.
