Windows 10: Open with Chrome menu option questions

Today I noticed that when I use the Open with menu for .docx files, Google Chrome is there as an option.

Just to test it, I chose Chrome to open a .docx file and what happened? It "downloaded" (copied) the file to the Downloads default folder!

I thought it would perhaps open the file via Google Docs inside a browser window, but it didn't.

My first question: is there a .docx-Google Docs-Chrome association that may be lost or corrupted somehow?

Second question: it there is no such association as above, how the heck did Chrome went to the Open with menu for .docx files?

Third: that menu option was created by Chrome or by Windows?

I know I can remove that option from the Open with menu by editing the Registry. But I can't help but wondering why such surprising strange stuff keep happening.now and then in Windows.

Chrome not even opening anymore

I appreciate if you could answer few questions to narrow down the issue and to provide you better assistance.

• Are you able to open other browser like Internet explorer and Edge?

This issue may arise due to some corruption in Chrome installation files. I suggest you to try installing Google Chrome in compatibility mode and check if it works. Compatibility mode runs the program using settings
from a previous version of Windows. Follow these steps to install the program in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

• Download the setup file from the Google Chrome website.

• Right-click on the .exe setup file and click on ‘Properties’.
• Click on the ‘Compatibility’ tab and check the box
  ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 7/8/8.1 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Radeon Overlay not displaying all options

Ok, I got a question. The options to hide the overlay are confusing. What are the steps to turn on the overlay in-game? Not interested in logging much at the moment. Is Alt-R part of turning it on/off?

 

Can I customize the list of suggest apps in the "Open with" menu?

Yep, I see the same.

I tried adding Paint to Open With for txt. That also appeared in the More Options list.

I suspect it's to do with what the programs are registered to handle. The Open With list is constructed form a number of sources e.g. at least these:



The first of those corresponds to Snip & Sketch (simply search and find refs to the Appx string)
