Windows 10: Laptop getting locked after I close the lid

    Laptop getting locked after I close the lid


    I have no idea what's happening but my laptop is getting locked for no reason at all after I close the lid. All my settings are set to never turn off and never sleep. I have also enabled "Do nothing" to every where possible. Tried changing every power plan, still not working. Had an one hour long screen sharing session with the Microsoft tech guy even he couldn't figure it out. Its my personal pc so no barriers set by work or school. Changed the network adapter settings, uninstalled battery drives, absolutely nothing seems too work. I do some auto pilot stuff overnight which is really important work so I have to keep my laptop on but I just can't keep the lid open all night knowing very well the thing can be solved as it use to work before. I have even reseted my PC twice now but still no luck. This setting is really important for me so if any of you can help me out I'd really appreciate it. Thnx!

    Windows 10 lock on lid close

    Hi Radoslav,

    Like the information you were able to find, closing the lid of your laptop will shut it down, put it to sleep, or let it hibernate. Locking the PC by closing the lid is currently not a function available in Windows.

    We suggest you share your feedback or suggestions on this
    page     for Microsoft to look into this option for future developments in Windows.

    Lock Screen on lid close

    When I close the lid of the laptop the screen doesn't lock automatically like it used to do on windows 8, it doesn't do anything. I also cannot find any settings on that on windows 10. Any directions or suggestions?

    Windows 10: How to Lock (not sleep) laptop on lid close?

    Two steps:

    • Capture the close lid event.
    • Trigger a lock-screen event.

    See: Capturing laptop lid closing event in windows?, and Command-line (cmd) command to lock a windows machine.

    From those sources, we can use RegisterPowerSettingNotification and GUID_LIDSWITCH_STATE_CHANGE to detect the trigger, and run:

    from the command line to send a lock screen request to the machine.

    I don't know what compilers you have available, or what languages you know, but this information should help you set up a program to do it for you.

    I don't use Windows myself, so I can't build or test it for you.
