  1. Adding my Microsoft account as a primary, but 2nd, login profile after originally creating...

Please be kind, as I'm an old dog trying to learn new tricks. LOL I've read that it's ideal to have a Microsoft account login set up to access my laptop, plus a local admin account for backup purposes in case the main Microsoft account becomes corrupted. I've done that on my new laptop in that order, but my husband bought a new laptop and couldn't remember his Microsoft password on his old computer, so we initially set his new laptop up with just a local admin profile. We've reset his MS login and want to now add it to his laptop. The plan is to use it as his main profile and only use the admin profile if needed in the future.

I understand how to add the local account without being tied to a MS account like I did on my new laptop. What I'm really wondering is which option to choose when doing the reverse on his laptop? In Settings Accounts, there is the option to "sign in with a Microsoft account instead" or I could go to Family & other users and add it as a second account similar to the other scenario. If I choose, "sign in with a Microsoft account instead" is that going to impact the original local admin profile and replace it convert, whatever... not sure of the right way to put it since I'm a little out of my league here? Would it be better to add it as a Family & other users option and obviously also make it an admin?

Second, when I add his MS account, will any applications need to be installed on both profiles? I understand that they will both have admin rights and have access to his data which is the whole point for backup reasons. But for example, he started installing Office 365 on the local admin profile, but hasn't set up Outlook yet. Once I set up the MS profile, will I need to reinstall Office and Outlook? I'm so used to the old days when everything was local on the machine in PST files, that I'm not 100% clear what's in the cloud vs not with the new Office installation.

I should also add that we ultimately want to get a local copy of his email data eventually as we plan on moving the domain we own and its associated email accounts to a new hosting provider and want to make sure we don't lose anything.

Thanks for any help and advice!

    :)

  2. Unable to change primary alias - Microsoft Account

    Hi John,

As per the description, you are experiencing issue with you are unable to change the primary alias for your Microsoft account on the system.

I certainly understand your concern and appreciate all your efforts in trying to fix this issue.

I would like to provide you with the information that
an account alias is an email address or phone number that you use to sign in to your Microsoft account. You can have multiple aliases, and use any of them with Microsoft services such as Outlook.com, Skype, OneDrive,
    Office, Xbox, Windows and more.

Your primary alias appears on devices such as your Xbox, Surface, and Windows Phone, and is the email OneDrive sends from when you share. You can choose a different alias to be the primary one at any time.

An alias is also the best way to change your email, but keep all your mail.
Add an alias, then make the new alias primary. Then you can
keep or remove the original alias.

I would suggest you to try the following steps and check if that helps.

Note: The email alias at the top of the list without a Make primary link is your current primary alias.

    • Uncheck the Send me promotional offers from Microsoft box if you like, and click/tap on Yes to confirm.
You may also try the following steps given below and check if that helps.

    • Navigate to Start>Settings>Account>Your Account.
    • In the right pane, click on Sign in with a local account instead.
    • Provide your current Microsoft Account Password.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions.
    • You can leave the Enter Password option empty, however, it is highly recommended to keep a password on your system to keep it safe.

    For reference:

I would suggest you to refer to the article given below and check if that helps.

    Win 10 change Microsoft account

    Hi
is it possible to change the Windows 10 Microsoft account to a new one?
During upgrade from Windows 7 the requested Microsoft account was not created correctly.
The filled in MS account does NOT exists! Account could not verified.
I created an alias account for the primary account. By mistake - I assumed there will be a new Outlook.com/Live account created - I filled in another not existing Microsoft account.
During startup/login this new alias account is shown and I can login to W10 correctly.
But I cannot change to another (alias) existing Microsoft account.

    • Is there a way to change the primary MS account?

Thank you for your help in advance.
