Windows 10: NO VIDEO ON MONITOR

TRYING TO GET VIDEO FROM LAPTOP TO A MONITOR. MY LAPTOP IS A OLDER DELL INSPIRON 1440 AND MY MONITOR IS A NEW HP 23ER. I TURN ON MY MOITOR AND IT SAYS NO SIGNAL. THE MONITOR HAS A TV STYLE HDMI AND MY LAPTOP HAS A USB A PORT. NO HDMI. ON LAPTOP. I BOUGHT A ADAPTOR TO WORK BETWEEN THE 2 AND NOTHING. I TRYED ANOTHER ADAPTOR AND CABLE AND STILL THE SAME THING. I INSTALL WINDOWS 10 WHEN IT CAME OUT FROM WINDOWS 7 . I AM NOT TECC SAVY SO I NEED A LOT OF HELP. THANKS

Cannot Display This Video Mode on Windows 10

To isolate this concern, kindly follow the troubleshooting steps below:

• Reset the cables between your computer and monitor.
• Use other video cable.
• Use the monitor on a different computer to check if it's still working.
• Use a different monitor on your computer to check if the video card is still working.

Note:

• If using the monitor on a different computer works, then the issue is with your video card.
• If using a different monitor on your computer works, then the issue is with the monitor.

PC wont boot up (No POST, No Video)

I recently installed a new Asus M5A99X Evo r2.0. The motherboard green LED lights up and the case and cpu fans spin. But there is no video when its hooked up to my monitor.

Steps that i have tried:
"No POST", "system won't boot", and "no video output" troubleshooting checklist

Made sure all connections are properly connected.

Flashing the CMOS

Tested the PSU

Followed all steps in the user manual
