I want to get rid of, at the very least, these ugly @ fonts that clogg up the immediately visible part of my list, (big time-waster). -- as an alternative solution I'd be happy with the ability to rename them, replacing the @ symbol with a Z to shove them into the bottom of the list

bonus points if anyone can tell me how to get it (Wordpad, MS Paint, etc.) to auto-preview highlighted text with the hovered font change so I can see what it will actually look ... like on decent programs (instead of having to click font menu, scroll, click new font, view, reclick menu, scroll, click new font, view, repeat... repeat... repeat until the right choice is found.

    :)

  2. How to Hide Fonts

The problem with uninstalling fonts is that I might need them later. I just want to hide them so they don't annoy me so much when I look through my list of fonts that I use regularly, a list that's very small.

how can I 'uninstall' or just 'hide' "protected" fonts?

    How to Hide Fonts

What you need to do with nexus font or any of the other options is you have to uninstall the font rather than hide them, MS have a history of not following their own "rules" so hiding may not work for Word *Wink

Fonts are uninstalled when they are removed from the fonts folder.

To do this safely you should first make a copy of the full fonts folder so that you have a way back if you ever change your mind. (Nexus font displays a view of this folder but has a method to uninstall the font but leave its file in the fonts folder, by directly accessing the registry information

When you choose uninstall in Nexus Font it will prompt you to move the font to a set location leave it where it is or back it up

I would suggest that you create a fonts folder tree somewhere away from the system so that you can find fonts in future and move files to somewhere in this tree when not in use, the way the tree is organised is your choice I use font families and font sources - MS Adobe Etc, but some pros will create folders of all the fonts they use for a specific Client, Job, or both.

There are other alternatives to Nexus Font, one was included with CorelDraw!, and some Pro options still remain but these are likely to cost hundreds of dollars or be part of suites that cost thousands

With all that I have stated here we are dealing with Microsoft here and it may be that you will do all this get everything as you like it and on the next Office or even Windows update/release Microsoft will check fonts and replace all those that have "disappeared" *Sad
