Windows 10: Can Windows 10 Just Stop Working?

Hey guys, so first of all I hope this is the right subreddit to post questions about Windows 10

Basically my issue is that the other day my laptop just completely failed to boot windows 10. I have an HP Envy and according to the system diagnostics my SSD is functioning properly, so HP support told me it’s definitely an issue with Windows 10. They’re basically sending me a recovery USB to factory reset my SSD and reinstall a fresh windows OS and according to them this option let’s be attempt a data backup first.

My question is, does this stuff ever just happen? I never downloaded anything weird, like just popular programs and mostly school stuff. The only games I played were like Minecraft and Steam games so I don’t know how I could have gotten a virus that would have done this. I’m so confused why Windows 10 would just break...

It really does seem it was an issue with my solid state drive. It has Intel Optane built in, and pretty much every time my laptop went to sleep mode and I turned it back on it would display “Windows OS did not shut down cleanly”, then display lines of data really quick, then open back up. This seemed unusual and I suspect the problem lies in my SSD rather than what HP is telling me is JUST windows 10. I know their goal is to just keep making money and to do as little work as possible to get my laptop fixed, so I doubt they actually care what the root problem is.

I also want to ask if anyone ever had a similar issue. Can Windows 10 just stop working for no reason? Out of nowhere, just become corrupted even if there is nothing fundamentally wrong with your hardware or how you take care of your product? This has already been a major inconvenience with classes starting and HP support taking their sweet time with helping me, so I’m trying to prevent this from happening in the future altogether.

DTS supported natively by Windows 8/8.1 and it should work on windows 10 too just DDL require to unlock your driver .

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.
