Windows Security disabled, and unable to update windows due to malware

    Hello,

I have detected some unusual permission requests to make changes to the Windows Defender Firewall. I looked for the file that was requesting the access, and it turned out to be malware. I removed it using Malwarebytes, as Windows security has been disabled.

After rebooting the PC, I tried to access Windows Security but you can see how the page showed in the screen capture below.

In the Virus & Threat protection settings, all settings options are greyed out, and I cannot do a scan.

When Checking the Windows Defender Firewall Services, in the properties the status in "Running", but keys below the status are greyed out. I tried to restore defaults, but nothing happened.

I wish to know how to fix this problem, how to enable Windows Defender Firewall, and Scan options since these are also not functional at the moment. Apparently, the malware has damaged quite a lot in the system.

    Thank you in advance!

  2. windows security center disabled...

    windows security center disabled????????

i just installed windows defender on my computer (freshly formated new hard drive about 2 weeks ago) and it would not update because the security center was not running. so i went to msconfig and it was not in the services list so i went to services.msc and it was disabled. so i changed it to automatic and started it. after rebooting it was still running, so i restarted it again and it was disabled again, so i renabled it again. and when i went to the security center in control pannel it looked like this

Windows Security disabled, and unable to update windows due to malware Untitled-1-3.jpg

i had to enable the windows firewall too. but it says that automatic updates are turned off, so i went to change it and it said that it was on...???...???? i did the fast format this time cause i didnt want to wait for 500gb to format *Big Grin Windows Security disabled, and unable to update windows due to malware :D and i have noticed a few other quirks mainly my audigy 4 pro software acting funny time to time. do you think that i have a virus or something of that nature? i will put AVG on here tomorrow and maybe adaware. i have never had a virus so i didnt see any need for anti virus and or spyware programs eating up resources. but i am puzzled as to why my services are automatically shutting down...

I have been having problems in installing the updates that I have listed below. For each update I attempted to install them individually but they would not install. I also downloaded the SURT 6.1 KB947821 v27. The problem has been going on now for about 2 months. (whenever the issue with the updates comes to mind I am never near my pc). Thank you in advance.

  4. Windows Security disabled, and unable to update windows due to malware

Windows 8 failure configuring updates and reverting

I agree 8 is awful! It's not for me though... I replaced a broken screen in a Win 8 laptop that was given to me and I am going to give it for free to someone that can't afford one so they can do homework at home. Yes I took it from 8 to 8.1 back on 10/09/2014. This is what I posted there...

"Great post! I found a similar one. I would like to point out that you may want to edit your OP...

    1. Step 1 should read to disable AUTOMATIC updates, not disable manual updates.

    2. KB2871398 should really read KB2871389

I would like to say that KB2917499 may also be needed as it was in my case. I also had to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter after installing those 2 updates. After these steps I was able to begin my 8.1 download from the Microsoft store. I don't know if it made a difference or not, but I also went into the Bios and disabled "Secure Boot."

It was a helpful post. Thanks!
