Windows 10: Encounter Error 'The file cannot be accessed by the system.' when executing python over...

Hi all,

Just like to ask for help troubleshooting this issue.


I keep encountering the following error when executing python over a remove powershell session -


Program 'python.exe' failed to run: The file cannot be accessed by the system.
+ CategoryInfo : ResourceUnavailable: : [], ApplicationFailedException

+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : NativeCommandFailed

I suspect there is some access control/applocker that I cannot figure out how to modify the settings of.


I am however able to do the following -

1. run python locally

2. run other programs remotely over powershell session e.g. nodejs.exe

3. the PATH variable is correctly set, confirmed by this -

Get-Command python Select-Object -ExpandProperty Definition

C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\PythonSoftwareFoundation.Python.3.7_qbz5n2kfra8p0\python.exe


The python program was installed through the microsoft store, and I cannot reproduce this error on other remote Windows 10 systems.


Any advise is greatly appreciated.

after install vcredist_x64.exe still have this error

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is in

correct. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.e

xe tool for more detail.

in the past, compile this program with py2exe in window 7 without any visual studio installed, it can run in new window server

but after install VS2017 community, and compile python program to executable file in window 10, then got this error

install in new virtual machine window 2008 in window 2012

From the description provided, I understand that you are encountering the error message when you are trying to access any media file in the CD/DVD Drive of your computer.

This issue may happen due to system file corruption. I suggest you to run System file checker. System File checker (SFC) scan is done to check if there are any corrupted system files that could be causing this issue. Kindly follow
the below given steps:

• 
  Press Windows key + X, select
  Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.
  
• 
  In Command prompt type
  sfc/scannow and press enter.
  
• Restart the computer.

If no corrupted system files were found in the previous state, then I suggest you to try the following steps:

• 
  Open command prompt by pressing Windows key + X and selecting “Command prompt admin”.
  
• 
  In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:
  
  DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
  
  DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  

• 
  Close the command prompt and restart the PC and check if it works.

python files are curropted.

If the icon on your .py files has changed,that means the file association on your python files has changed and they are trying to open in the wrong application

To fix the file association, you need to locate pythonw.exe in your Python installation, then, right click a .py file, choose Properties. On the resulting dialog, click 'Change' then navigate to find that pythonw.exe executable

That should reset the file association on Python files . . .
