Windows 10: 5.1 sound in movies, 2.0 sound in games on HDMI cable

Hey guys!

So, my system is connected like this:

PC -> (hdmi from NVIDIA 1660super) -> LG tv -> (HDMI) -> LG home theater

If I'm playing Netflix or downloaded movies or sound samples (and even the trailers in the Dolby Access app), I DO get 5.1 sound (both dolby and dts; but not pcm 5.1, only 2.0). But I couldn't get ANY games to send a 5.1 signal (Witcher 3, for instance, is encoded in Dolby, just like the movies that worked).

Any ideas of why movies send the correct sound signal, but not any games? Any tips of what I could try to solve this?

Hdmi sound not working

Can't get sound through HDMI cable

I just upgraded to Windows 10 and can no longer get sound through my HDMI cable. The video works fine. I am on a Dell laptop and a Panasonic Viera TV. When I go to the start menu and go to sound, it says Realtek High Definition Audio output as a playback
device but there is nothing about HDMI. (Other posts/replies seem to suggest that HDMI should be listed.) I am not terribly sophisticated with this stuff so a simple solution would be much appreciated.

What make of video card do you have and is there more than one.

If you right click the audio icon on the taskbar, select playback devices, see

what listed, if more than one pick the one corresponding to your hdmi.

Realtek audio can be built in speakers or digital out like coax or fiber.

Amd (ati) nvidia or intel should have a specific driver for the hdmi,

this should also be in device manager listings under audio inputs

and outputs and sound video and game controllers.

It may also that you have the microsoft basic display driver installed

on your system, that would be listed under display adapters.
