  1. Which Windows 10 files to have on SSD vs HDD?

I just built my first pc a few months ago, no issued but now I’m running out of space on my 500gb ssd (not huge I know Ive learned my lesson now) I do understand the benefits of saving to ssd vs hdd, so my question is more specific to windows start up files.

I just keep the two games I’m currently playing on my ssd, and move them to the hdd when i’m done. I guess what I’m most confused about is that since I have windows 10 saved on my ssd for a faster start up, which files from that can be moved over to my hdd and not effect start up speed? I’ve got about 30gb of space left, but I only have two games saved on it and haven’t really downloaded a whole ton of things, so it’s not big files but a bunch of tiny ones.

Trying to just drag and drop some of the files hasn’t been working as usually there is something within it that’s actively running, I’m not sure how to find where it’s running from.

Do certain files need to be within specific folders in order for everything to function?

Hopefully that makes sense, I don’t really have a strong grasp of all this yet. Let me know if I need to be more specific or anything, I’m trying to learn and better understand how it all works. Thanks in advance for your help!

  2. Upgraded Windows Transfer from HDD to SSD

    Hi

My windows was upgraded from 8 to 10 on my laptop few years back. I was trying to get the HDD replaced with SSD. During the copy process, the technician said windows cannot be moved to SSD as it is an upgraded version from 8 to 10.

Kindly guide if there is a possibility to copy the windows to SSD ? If so, please suggest the steps.

  3. OS on new SSD, keep existing data on HDD and use as external drive

    Hi,

use steps you suggested, there should be no problem.

Just replace HDD with SSD first then run installation. Do not forget to remove Windows files from HDD after the end of a process.

Which Windows 10 files to have on SSD vs HDD?

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
