Windows 10: Windows Pro N not able to run extension Microsoft.RawImageExtension

Apologies if this is not the most correct forum for this topic.


On my computer I have been using the extension Raw Image Extension from Microsoft so I can see the raw thumbnails from my machine on the file explorer.


Yesterday I decided to clean format my desktop and installing Windows Pro N. However now after formatting and installing again the Raw Image extension, thumbnails are not displayed on file explorer, also the Photo app can't open CR2 raw images. Previous time I did format was around Christmas 2019 and everything was working with the Raw Image Extension.


Also I can confirm that RawImageExtension works on the Windows 10 Pro normal version.


Windows Build 19042.746


Hardware Intel i7-7700k, asus z270-a, msi gtx 1060 6gb, 16gb ram, samsung 960 evo 250GB


Raw Image Extension works on Windows Pro version, I checked what are the differences on the installed Apps, they are as follows:

Seems like the N version of windows is missing something more than just the prebuild media apps.


Can someone help and/or advise on what could be wrong?

November 2019 update Windows 10 Pro N

Dear fellows,
Has anyone got a clue why the November Update does NOT work on the Pro N version?
I run the N version (dutch) as well as the normal Pro, in a dual boot situation.
My regular Pro updated without problems, but the 'effing' N wil not update.
Any suggestions?
(No don't say get rid of the N, there are too applications installed)

However I can only guess you didn’t understand my post because I was only suggesting that people who take the time to read and post in tech forums will likely be able to tell the difference and that general consumers probably wouldn’t.

Microsoft may have released full specs on the Surface Pro but I don’t recall seeing a full spec sheet. For example, “Intel Core i5 Ivy Bridge CPU” doesn’t specify a model and CPU model would be a factor in overall price. This wouldn’t matter if there is only one Core i5 Ivy Bridge mobile CPU though (i5-3360M, i5-3320M, i5-3427U).

Furthermore your suggesting that OEM’s will release Windows 8 Pro tablets and laptops and undercut the pricing suggests that you are unaware that OEM’s have already released products. For what its worth there is a range (Atom, i3, i5 and for laptops i7) but the pricing is similar to Microsoft’s offering in the Surface Pro for similar OEM hardware in the same form-factor. An example of this is Acer Iconia Tab W700 series, Acer Iconia Tab W500 series, Samsung ATIV SmartPC Pro XE500xx, Samsung ATIV SmartPC Pro XE700xx,….

As I stated before though, when you shrink the product you often pay more money with respect to processing power. So comparing a general 17”, 15” or 13” laptop to a sub 11” screen PC touch tablet isn’t the same thing.

 

How to replace Windows 10 Pro N license to just Pro?

No, I suggested to download the ISO file yourself. Install Media Creation Tool, choose Create Bootable Media or Download ISO, untick the box to Use Recommended Settings if it suggests N version so you can choose Pro in your bit version. Then proceed with
the other steps I gave.
