Today I uninstalled Norton 360 from my gaming pc because I wasn’t paying the subscription and was tired of the persistent popups. As soon as I did so, I noticed the icons on the bottom-left corner of every desktop icon had changed from the ‘normal’ blue arrow and square background, presumably associated with Norton, into a green check mark with a circle background. I’ve also noted that selecting ‘always keep on this device’ or ‘free up space’ from the basic right-click menu also changes these sub-icons.

My question now is, what do these icons mean? I’ve read they have something to do with OneDrive, but beyond that I’m not really sure. Do the functions they symbolize affect game performance? Is there some standard or preferred option among Windows users, or is it more of a ‘change based on needs’ sort of thing?

Thank you for reading, and I hope you can properly educate me on the significance of these icons.

  2. Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.

Little people (shared icon?) in the corner of desktop icons

    Hi Emily,

The green check mark means those files are synced onto OneDrive

The 2 people icon means you have shared your desktop

The icons with the arrow are just shortcuts, they do not need to be synced or backed up

All this is perfectly normal in Windows 10 . . .
