Windows 10: A white or black box obscures the top menu of some apps, like Excel or File Explorer

Whenever I plug in a second monitor and display my screen in Extended Mode, apps that are opened on the second monitor will sometimes appear with a white or black block obscuring the top of the app. It happens to a variety of apps, such as Excel or File Explorer, and the obscured area will often cover the menu, preventing me from selecting menu items.

There is a black white strip along the top of my file explorer.

There is a black white strip along the top of my file explorer. The same thing happened to Microsoft Edge. I believe this happens to all the Microsoft apps. This does not happen with other applications such as google chrome. When i click on the blank strip,
it goes to the program behind it.

 

Excel & File Explorer

• Right click on Excel file
• Select Open with
• Select EXCEL (Desktop application) and make sure the check box in the top is selected

excel file causes instability in "windows explorer"

When I open an excel file by double clicking on the name in windows explorer, the file opens OK but at the same

time, the explorer file list jumps up and down as it lists and de-lists the

excel temp file. It is very distracting. I can close the explorer window or

simply change to another folder. It occurs only on one of my computers and only on some excel files

It happens only with excel files and not with word or acrobat

Any suggestions where to look for the problem. We've reinstalled Office 10 and reset my windows profile. nothing helped so far.
