Windows 10: Bitlocker issues when having locked disk partitions.

Dear Sir/Madam,


I ran into an issue when working with Maya 2020.4 regarding bitlocker. My laptop has 1 m2 SSD of 2TB which I subdivided into multiple partitions of which 1 partition is bitlocked my P:\ drive. When booting up Maya 2020 it however gave me an error telling me it could not load in some plugins in particular the Arnold renderer and the Houdini import plugin due to them being locked away by bitlocker while Maya is installed on the C:\ drive partition, therefor not locked away. However, when I unlocked my P:\ drive partition the issues seem to go away.


This is as far as I am certain undefined behaviour and shouldn't be happening. I chose to post this here since bitlocker seems to prevent me from loading in plugins in an environment that shouldn't be prevented from doing so. If I am in the wrong place let me know.

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

 

Disk management console view is not up-to-date

i dont know how to fix your disk management, but i can fix your partition problems...




open up Command Prompt with admin rights. (Right click, run as admin)


enter in
DISKPART
list disk

then find the Disk number for your Raid array... lets call it number 7 ( you can tell what disk is what by the total size)
type in

Select Disk 7
List Partition (will give you a list of all the partitions..)
Select Partition 1 (im assuming you only have 1 partition on Disk 7) repeat this step if you have more partitions.
ASSIGN


that should get the array up and running ready to use.

Bitlocker recovery of a partition broken disk

SO I Had a big 3 TB disk, I used one partition with bitlocker GPT, another that's 200 GB with Linux ubuntu on it and one with 9 GB for linux system required partition. I wanted to remove the linux. I used AOMEI assistant to delete linux partitions, but I
did it without deleting contents of partition option (probably the problem), then the windows disk partitioner showed 200 GB of unallocated space, I then extended the bitlocker partition to the unallocated space using windows partitioner, then everything broke
and stopped working, the bitlocker recovery key, password, nothing unlocks the disk.

My guess is that the windows partitioner didn't clear data that was in unallocated space, so it added alot of random data to bitlocker partiton, the random data doesn't have metadata, so it doesn't unlock right? That's my theory. How do I recover my data,
it's still there, how do I get to it.
