Windows Explorer doesn't refresh by itself

    Hi to all,

I am sharing this as I found a workable solution to my issue where File Explorer will not refresh when I deleted or moved files around.

This applied to my Desktop as well as File Explorer. The files would not "appear" when I created a new one, and a file would not "disappear" in the window when I moved or deleted it. This was Folders, Excel documents, Word Docs etc. etc.

Changes would only happen when I would "Right-Click" and select "Refresh" on the window.

In my instance, it was a failed install of Apple iCloud from the Microsoft Store.

I un-installed all instances of iCloud, rebooted and re-installed the latest version from the store. All seems well now.

If this is not the problem in your case, may I suggest the following method to track down a potential App/Program on your PC that may be causing this:

1 Right-Click on the START / Windows icon at the bottom left of your screen.

2 Select "Task Manager" from the list that pops up.

3 In the Task Manager window select "Startup" from the row of tabs near the top.

4 Got through the list of programs and disable one program you suspect and reboot your PC. Take note of which one you have disabled.

To do this, Right-Click a program and select "Disable" from the menu that drops down.

5 After your PC has rebooted, try to create a new folder on your desktop and see if it automatically shows up. Then try delete it.

To do this, Right-Click on an empty area on the Desktop and select "New -> Folder" from the menu.

6 If the new folder does not appear when you create it, or disappear when you delete it, repeat Steps 1 -5 above and choose a different program until the problem stops.

7 If you find the culprit program, then try to Repair it or Uninstall it via "Settings"

One way to do this is Right-Click the Windows / Start Button -> Settings -> Apps -> Click on the program on the list -> Uninstall. Follow the prompts from there.

8 Once the program has been uninstalled, reboot and log back in to your computer.

9 Try to create a new folder on your desktop again, and then delete it. If this works, then you have the culprit.

10 Re-install the problematic program again with the latest version you can obtain.

11 After installation, reboot and repeat the process of creating a new folder on your desktop and delete it. If this works, and File Explorer now refreshes automatically,go back to "Task Manager" and follow steps 1-4, but this time ENABLE all the other programs you had Disabled, one by one, and keep testing new folders on your desktop to make sure there are not any other issues.

You can go through this and by process of elimination find any programs that might be hanging File Explorer up.

If this does not work then also explore the other solutions offered in the other threads.

    Hope this helps!

    :)

Windows doesn`t start. Authomatic repair doesn`t work.

    Thanks again!!

I`m sorry I had not noticed that the text on the picture was in spanish. It says that windows has replaced some damaged clusters in "name" file and "directory". Then, at the end "an unspecified error occurred (75736e6a726e6c2e 4f6)".

I`ll do it and I`ll be updating this thread when I have the report.

I ran SeaTools. These are the results:

Does it mean my HDD is useless?

Automatic refresh doesn't work in File Explorer, Desktop, Recycle etc.

And in safe mode? I don't think you've commented on that yet.

Solutions from a general web search:

    - quite a list - note some of these would be covered by a test in safe mode.

Same in the safe mode, no changes...

I have tried pretty much all those suggestions from various sites, but none of them worked for me.
What I have seems to be a major issue, they even call it WEDR bug.
The only thing that slightly changed recently... sometimes, a few times I managed to get automatic refresh for the Desktop, if I for example do the right click and create a new folder, it does create instantly and is visible straight away.... hoewever this never happens in Windows Explorer... I think I once got a file in C: to be processed automatically but thats it... and never had ANY automatic refresh for any of the folders and files on external drives.
