Windows 10: Transferring Windows 10 Pro RETAIL license from old computer to new computer

Hi there


I have an old computer with Windows 10 Pro Retail fully activated. It was originally a Windows 8 Pro retail key that I bought from a shop in a box and then upgraded to Windows 10 Pro.


I would now like to transfer this old license to my new computer that also has Windows 10 Pro but isn't activated at the moment.


From many links around, I have found articles after articles stating that as long as I have a RETAIL bought copy of Windows 7/8 and then ugpraded it to 10 then I have transfer rights. This is not the case for OEM copies.


I called up Microsoft Support and they said that they weren't able to help me as they said it wasn't possible. When showing them the links below, they just said that they did not know what to say and sent me this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/upgrade-to-windows-10-faq-cce52341-7943-594e-72ce-e1cf00382445 claiming that it states no transfer rights, when I asked them where it says I can't transfer it, they just froze and put me forward their supervisor who also froze and said that she'll email me a link. However, I haven't been emailed a link claiming no transfer rights. Disaster Customer Support from Microsoft!

I then tried to press Troubleshoot on my new computer and hit "changed hardware" then it just says "These devices were registered with a version of Windows 10 that does not support this feature"

I have a full licensed retail version of Windows 10 on my old computer.

Full details please of how this ma[y be transferred to my new computer.

Am not an IT guru so need details of where to access the old Product key

How to transfer windows 10 license to a new computer?

If its the free upgrade originated from an OEM Windows 7 or Windows 8 preinstalled license, it is still not transferrable, even though it says its retail in the command line using slmgr.vbs /dlv command.

Only licenses upgraded from a retail Windows 8 or Windows 7 or full Windows 10 license.

Transfer Windows 10 Pro License to New Computer

Hi,

I have a laptop that came preinstalled with Windows 10 Home. Earlier this year, I had to purchase the $99 Windows 10 Pro digital license through Microsoft Store for that computer. I'm pretty sure there is no product key for it, as it's a digital license.
It is linked to my Microsoft account however. I recently purchased a new computer that came preinstalled with Windows 10 Home, and I was hoping to deactivate that Pro license on my old computer and re-activate it on my new computer by signing in with that
same account. I really don't want to have to pay another $99 to get another Windows 10 Pro upgrade. I've done some digging and it's been a mixed bag as to whether I can do that or not. Some people say that you can do that, others say that it's tied to the
hardware and you can't. Even among Microsoft Forums the answer isn't clear. The key issue seems to be whether or not the license is considered OEM or Retail. I've checked through Command Prompt, and mine says Retail. Can someone provide clarity on whether
or not I can transfer the Windows 10 Pro license to the new computer? I would greatly appreciate it!
