Changing SATA 3gb cable with 6gb cable

    Hello all!

I had a very basic question, I was just wondering will there be any issues with simply changing a 3gb sata cable with a 6gb sata cable?

My MOBO has 6 Grey sata ports (I think 3gb) and 2 Red sata ports (I think 6gb). I swapped out the 3gb cable with a 6gb cable in the red sata port. Do I need to do anything in BIOS, any further steps? Does it matter which red port I plugged it in? 1 of 2?

When I first booted I got a post and everything, then just as the windows logo came up to load my pc shutdown instantly.

Then when I booted it up the 2nd time it booted into windows all sweet as per usual, very strange. Would changing sata cables have anything to do with this?

The only other thing I did was clean up all the extra hard drive power cables I had, the cable that has 6 or so hardrive power plugs and replaced that with a cable that only has 2 power plugs, obviously because I wont be needing the other one since I only have 1 harddrive.

Thanks Changing SATA 3gb cable with 6gb cable :)

    Windows 20H2

    :)

Can I switch my sata cable from my dvd to a hard drive?

The article you linked to states that the color of the SATA cable means nothing. "Technically speaking, there is no difference and doesn't matter what color they are. The functionality remains the same for all of them."

This article confirms that a SATA cable is a SATA cable is a SATA cable:
SATA 3Gb/s vs. 6Gb/s Cable Performance (Revisited)
"Our results confirm that despite the faster hardware available today, there is still no performance difference between SATA 3Gb/s and SATA 6Gb/s cables."

    Hi richodude

Rest assured,, that will be fine, you can connect the SSD to the SATA cable for your CD Drive, just make sure to connect to both the data cable onto the motherboard and the power cable to the PSU . . .

    SATA 3.0 (6Gbps) Cables - What's the Deal?

I've heard many reviewers state that there is no difference between a SATA 2.0 cable and a SATA 3.0 cable other than the marking on them. I have heard others say that there are differences. I'd definitely like a definitive answer on this.

    Found this from SATA-I

They definitely mention that SATA 2.0 cables may not live up to SATA 3.0 drives, but there doesn't seem to be a set standard for the cabling, at least in that document. Is there any other information out there?
