    Pendrive write speed gone to 500kbsec while read speed is untouched


    Pendrive write speed gone to 500kbsec while read speed is almost untouched
    ( while I copy date from Pendrive to SSD/HDD/Nvme it gives 30-40 mb/sec speed which is normal


    Pendrive -- Samsung - Duo Plus 128GB USB 3.1, USB-C Flash Drive - GrayOS Windows 10 64bit 20H2 updated
    CPU-i7-4770k
    Mobo- Asus Z87 Deluxe

    tried -- 1--Formating , deleting partition via windows disk managment and via rufus too
    2--converting from MBR to GPT and invert too
    3--Crystal disk info stuck with avg slow speed less than 1 mb
    4--tried test on other computer and Pc stick too

    this is my pendrive using over a long time since its release

    Slow HDD read and write speeds

    Hi,

    Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    We will require a few more information from you to help you further with the issue. Please reply with the following details:

    • In which device are you facing this issue?
    • Are you using an external HDD or internal HDD?
    • Are you getting the read and write speed issue on any particular application?

    However, you can Disk Defragment on your computer to optimize the drive. To run Disk Defragment please follow the steps from the article

    Defragment your Windows 10 PC    .

    Alternatively, you can check for the read and write speed of the HDD in task manager. Please follow the steps mentioned below to check the read and write speed of the hard drive:

    1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc key together on the keyboard.
    2. Click on Performance tab.
    3. Click on Disk 0.
    4. You will find the Read speed and
      Write speed       at the bottom of the window.

    Increase the read / write speed of an external hard drive

    The speed of read/write mainly depends on the hardware and external hard disk itself. For example in case if you use SSD with USB-3 it would have greater speed.

    Do you have any specific suggestion on improving the speed?

    Windows team are working to make sure performance as one of key quality of factor is improving in all aspects of Windows 10.

    Your hard drive read and write speed aren't what dictate your Steam download speed - it's your internet connection speed that is causing the 2Mbps download speed.
