Windows 10: How do I get my product key if I can boot into my computer

I built my first pc recently and got a usb from my friend to download windows off of, however that usb seems to have malfunctioned in the download because my windows suddenly broke down after 2 weeks and after i reinstalled using the same usb, 2 days later again which would be yesterday. I can boot up into safe mode and when i tried the reset with files option the reset failed. The reason im hesitant to just uninstall and reinstall with a new usb is i bought a windows activation 2 days ago thinking that would be the problem and it just automatically activated and i never recived a product key. I was signed in with my microsoft account on the pc but i cant be sure the activation is linked with the account without being able to enter it and i dont want to waste 140$ for 2 days of windows and have to buy it again. So my question would be is there a way to either check if its connected or find my product key without entering so i can reinstall knowing ill still have windows?

Thank you for contacting Microsoft community.

I suggest you to Uninstall the license using the following steps.

• Press Windows key + X
• Click Command Prompt (Admin)
• At the command prompt, type: slmgr.vbs -upk
• Press Enter, this will uninstall the product key from the computer.

Further on, install Windows 8.1 activate the copy with the product key on the new machine. Then again upgrade the same to Windows 10 using Window Update or Media Creation Tool.

Unable to boot the computer.

I suggest you check if you are able to boot into Windows Recovery Environment using installation media. Follow the steps provided below and check.

• • Insert the installation USB and boot Windows 10 from it.
  • In the ‘Windows setup’ page select the ‘language to install’, ‘Time and currency format’ and the ‘keyboard or input method’ and click on ‘next’.
  • Click on ‘Repair your computer’ and select ‘Troubleshoot’.

Check if you are able to boot to this window. If you are unable to boot to this window, I suggest you to contact the manufacturer and check.

Where is my Product Key if I want to re-install?


Like davidhk said. But if you really want to see your windows key, I would suggest Belarc advisor. It will give you some useful information about your system, product keys of your software is among them (not only Microsoft, you will have listed most of your keys).
