  1. WIN10 Desktop - Without SMB 1.0, what 'feature' is serving my share and how do I adjust it?

I started having a problem last week when I rebuilt a Raspberry Pi client. It attaches to the same Win 10 share as before but binary program files and scripts can't be executed now.

For SMB1 there was a setting to make the share server allow clients to execute.

But since none of the SMB 1.0/CIFS features are checked, how do I make sure that setting is on?

What feature is now supporting the sharing? Where do I go to adjust the settings of the existing share?

Also, is it possible that SMB1 was working before last week and now it has been turned off by an automatic update?

Or do I need to turn SMB1 back on?

All mentions here and elsewhere refer to SMB1, but I read that it is deprecated. I guess SMB2/3 is running on my machine but how do I find it? Has there been will there be new documentation to show how to manage the share server without SMB1?

    :)

    smb 1 to smb2 upgrade

I attached a USB 3 drive to my Linksys 7310 router, then mapped a network drive from one Win10 laptop to bulk several GB of files - no problem. When I try to map to that share with another Win 10 laptop, I get an error message that the share is using SMB
1, and SMB 2 is required. How do I upgrade or workaround?

Safety of Login credentials for SMB...

Ok so similar but slightly different question:

    Background:

    • Storage hosted by my Linksys WR32X Router (see screenshot) with authentication credentials
    • SMB v1, v2, and v3 are all enabled on my Win10 PC via the "Enable Features" window (and I've restarted my PC)
    • My Windows 10 account uses my MS Live email address as a username and I have 2-step authentication set up as well

    A Timeline:

    • The NAS successfully shows up and is accessible from the Network page in Win Explorer
    • I've successfully mapped the storage to a Network Drive in Windows using the authentication credentials I set in my router's settings page (again see screenshot)
    • When I try to access the SMB share via a separate device on my network (my FireTV device running Kodi 17--which supports up to SMB v3), I get caught in an endless loop of it asking for a username and password.
      • I've tried using the credentials I set in my router settings, which worked when I mapped the share to a network drive in windows, and it didn't work in Kodi
      • I've tried un-mapping and re-mapping the share to a network drive using my windows 10 account username and password instead of the credentials set in my router settings, which did not work for either mapping the drive in windows or for accessing it in Kodi
      • I also tried generating an app-specific password via my Microsoft account settings in case the 2-step authentication set on my account was causing the issue (much like you have to do to add your account to Outlook Desktop App when 2-step is set up)

I just want to access my SMB share from my FireTV device (or any network device for that matter) without having to create a new local user. I saw some responses saying that I need to set up a new local account and use it's credentials to map the drive and
then it should work, but is this REALLY necessary? It seems like a redundant workaround...

So, what if I don't want to create a new local user? I like having jut one account on my Win10 PC and that uses my
MS email address as the Win10 Account username.

Any suggestions? What am I missing here? Thanks in advance MS community!

    Network Shares blocked by firewall

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues with Network Sharing being blocked by the Firewall. I would suggest you to check and confirm if the SMB 1.0 CIFS File Sharing feature is enabled in the system that is facing this issue. You
    can follow the steps below.

Steps to enable SMB 1.0 CIFS File Sharing Support:

    1. Press the Windows and
R key together, this will open the Run dialogue box for you.
    2. Type appwiz.cpl and press enter, this will open the
Programs and Features window for you.
    3. Click on Turn Windows features on or off in the left pane.
    4. In the Windows Features window, scroll down and under
SMB 1.0 CIFS File Sharing Support, check the boxes next to
SMB 1.0/CIFS Client and SMB 1.0/ CIFS Server. If the boxes are already ticked, please uncheck the box and check it again.
    5. You will be prompted to restart your Computer, kindly restart the system and check if the issue still persists.

As the systems are in Domain, if the issue still persists, I would suggest you to post your query in
IT Pro ‘TechNet’ forums, where we have support professionals
who are well equipped with the knowledge on systems connected in Domain to assist you with your query.
