Still getting errors after migrating to a new user account

    Several problems still.

Windows 10 20H2 initially wouldn't install or even progress past 38%. Posting about this previously revealed a corrupt user account.

My drive is fine, it was corrupt from failed overclocking.

I made a new user account, copied over all my previous user folder, then deleted the old account in Accounts setting other users.

However some kind of 'shadow login' option still exists for the old account that wont go away. There are no other accounts left in 'Family and other users', only the new admin account I made exists within windows, but on the login screen there is still a blank grey user account for my previous account.

This remnant of my old account is still preventing the update from installing. It now goes up to 100%, then proceeds to install, then goes onto 'undoing changes' likely because I cant fully remove all traces of the old user account.

I now get error code 0x800707e7 under update history for the 20H2 failed installation, and have read this link about it here

    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-10-upgrade-error-0x800707e7-0x3000d

I need to find out how to fully remove my previous user account that still keeps showing up on the login screen even with no user account or folder for it in users left on my PC.

I will then try removing my graphics drivers as well before trying again.

    :)

Several problems with user account in windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I appreciate your time and efforts in troubleshooting. According to the information, the issue might be due to user profile corruption. Since you have already created a new user account and verified all the settings, I would suggest you to migrate
all the data to new user account and then delete the older account. Migrate all the data from all the folder from location C:/Users/OldUsername to the new folder in C:/Users/NewUserName except these files:

    • Ntuser.dat
    • Ntuser.dat.log
    • Ntuser.ini

Once all your data is migrated, sign in to new user account and check all your data/settings & delete the old account. Please make sure that you create an Administrator account not a standard account.

    Regards,

  4. Still getting errors after migrating to a new user account

    New Account/User Issues

    Hi,

When you create a new user account, Windows uses the Default user profile as a template to construct the files for the newly created user account. You might be experiencing issues creating new accounts due to a corrupt Default profile. To
resolve the issue, we suggest reinstating the Default folder in the
Users directory by following these steps:

    • Log in as an administrator.
    • Open the C:\Users folder using Windows Explorer.
    • Rename the Default user profile folder to Default.OLD.
    • Download a zip of C:\Users\Default from a Windows 10 installation that doesn't have this problem.
    • Unzip the non-corrupt Default profile into C:\Users.
    • Try logging in to the new user account and check if the problem is resolved.

Let us know how it turns out.
