  1. Is Night Light's automatic scheduling feature completely unreliable for anyone else?

I'd really like to ditch f.lux and just use the blue light filter built into the OS, but even to this day the scheduling feature for Night Light is completely unreliable for me, particularly in regards to sleep. If my PC is asleep whenever it's time for Night Light to toggle, it will almost always be in the wrong state when I wake it later on. Sometimes it seems to think it's in the right state when the color temperature is clearly in the opposite state. Either way, it results in me having to manually toggle it. Sometimes it doesn't even toggle when it's supposed to even when the PC is awake!

I've tried out Night Sight several times for what feels like over the course of several years and it's always been like this. I don't understand why this apparently so hard to get right. Is anyone also experiencing this issue or know of any way to get it to behave correctly? This is on 20H2.

  2. Night light schedule not working

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand your concern as you are unable to schedule the time for Night Light feature in Windows 10. In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below.

    • What is the Windows 10 version and Build installed? (Type
      winver in Windows search/Run command)
    • Are you aware of any changes, prior to this issue?

Meanwhile, we would suggest you to update the display driver from Device Manager.

    1. Press Windows + X and select
      Device Manager
      .
    2. Scroll down and expand Display Adapters. Now Right click on the display devices and select
      Update Driver.
    3. Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
    4. Select Update Driver.
    5. Restart the PC and check

If the issue persists even after updating the driver, then we would suggest you to make the below registry change.

    1. Press Windows +R key to open
      run
      command.
    2. Type regedit and click on
      Ok
      .
    3. Navigate to this location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\CloudStore\Store\Cache\DefaultAccount
    4. Here, delete the following sub keys
      1. $$windows.data.bluelightreduction.bluelightreductionstate
      2. $$windows.data.bluelightreduction.settings

Note: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow
these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

Follow the steps to take backup of registry

After deleting the registry sub keys, restart the PC and then enable Night Light feature from Windows settings.

Let us know how it goes.

  3. Night Light won't turn on on schedule

I will just install flux as Night Light is way too unreliable, especially for such a simple feature that has been around for years.

Is Night Light's automatic scheduling feature completely unreliable for anyone else?

    Night Light/Dark Mode Task Scheduler

What I'm trying to achieve is really quite simple.

I want to create 2 tasks:

    1. When I turn on the night light, dark default app mode is enabled
    2. When I turn off the night light, light default app mode is enabled

I don't really have any experience with creating tasks in Task Scheduler so I'd appreciate some pretty in-depth help

Thanks Is Night Light's automatic scheduling feature completely unreliable for anyone else? :)
