Switch Pro Controller not being recognized correctly

Hello, I recently bought the Pro controller to use for my Switch & Steam games. It works great with the switch, but has been giving me many headaches over the Steam/Windows counterpart.

I'm using a USB-C - USB cable to connect it to the PC Win10 Pro 64bit, but the home button doesn't light up as it should. Unlike other people who've had the same problem online, the "device connected" windows sound is played, and after a bit of effort I found that the device manager is actually recognizing it, just not as a controller, but as a "USB Input Device" in the "Human Interface Devices" tab instead of as a Pro Controller in "Sound, video and game controllers". I tried uninstalling the device from the device manager, and upon replugging I was met with a "Setting up device: Pro Controller" notification, then another saying it was set up successfully. It's also listed in "Bluetooth & other devices" under the "Other devices" section, as a "Pro controller", while the device manager still deems it a generic "USB Input Device".

The controller itself is non-responsive except for the green pairing lights which try to pair it with something every time I press a button. My understanding is that the controller wants to pair wirelessly with a Switch and doesn't even try to pair with the PC, all it does is charge.

Any ideas? I've been trying to fix this for weeks with no luck so far.

    Cheers!

    :)

Nintendo Switch Pro Controller not being detected by Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We appreciate your effort on this. We understand that when you connect the Nintendo Switch Pro controller to the computer, it is not being detected, we will look into this for you.

However, it would be great if you can help us with the details requested below:

    • Does the Nintendo Switch Pro controller gets detected in any other computer?
    • Were you able to use the Nintendo Switch Pro controller earlier on your current computer?
    • Is any other USB Device detected on your computer?
    • Do you see any Unknown device or a yellow yield sign on any device in Device Manager?
    • May I know the troubleshooting steps that you have tried so far?

To check for unknown devices, you can press Windows key + X, and select
    Device Manager.

If you see any Unknown device or a device with yellow yield, right click on the device and select
    Update Driver.

However, we would also suggest you to refer the steps mentioned in the article

Error: “USB Device not recognized” when you try to access a USB external hard drive.
except Method 1 and 2 and check if that helps in resolving the issue.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

  3. Pros to PC Gaming?

    So many pros!

    The pros:
    • high dpi mouse sensors
    • playing on cherry mx keys
    • switching to xbox 360 controller
    • switching hdmi on, jumping on couch, playing on big screen tv
    • pausing, google something on desktop, continue
    • tweak game, mod game, use editor
    The cons:
    • Sometimes I can't decide if I'm more comfortable playing with KB/Mouse reclined at my desk, or with xbox 360 controller on couch. *Toast :toast:
