Windows 10: microsoft windows 10s virus and security quick scan puzzle

I am puzzled at the quick scan function of the quick scan recommendation in my windows 10S laptop Dashboard


My security dashboard is showing a quick scan is required yet it seems to serve no purpose , Yes it turns on but never seems to stop. There is no progress bar so its not possible to see if its actually working.


I keep the laptop upgrades and security up to date by daily checks in the settings.


I have had no alerts of any security risks of from browsing downloads.


At some point the old Micro soft Defender disappeared . This showed clearly progress of a scan and types of scan. and seemed to be a useful tool.


Yes I understand the Microsoft windows 10 S version allows only secure apps to be downloaded and my system is also continually monitored by micro soft for security.


WHY IS THERE A NEED FOR THE QUICK SCAN RECOMMENDATION IN THE SECURITY DASHBOARD WHICH SEEMS TO RUN WITHOUT STOPPING IF TURNED ON.


IS THIS A REDUNDANT FEACTURE ????

Yes that's exactly what I have. If you notice there is an uninstall option next to organize if you scroll to other updates ie. office, but it will disappear once you scroll to the latest updates.

What version of Windows 10 are you running, that screen looks rather different to mine.

In mine we have Scan options





Which takes you to this option where you can choose quick, full or custom.
