Hi there! I've recently lost access to windows because of the 0xc0000098 error, also unable to fix bcd because it isnt picking up an operating system with an external windows install usb (i cant access windows recovery from my windows hdd itself), then I found myself trying to mount my windows partition with no success because of the crappy fast startup feature introduced in windows 7. I know already some of you guys might just say i should wipe my entire drive and do a clean install. But i cant, because of how expensive data prices in south africa is so if you guys can please give me suggestions of how to work around this.

    Thanks in advance

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

Can you tell Windows to NOT mount a drive?

I have a new computer and am doing dual boot with Windows 10 and Linux.

Setting that up is NOT easy. And Windows mounts the EFI partition on

the second drive when Windows boots. (It has fat32/vfat filesystem).

This is undesireable. Linux provides ways of controlling what drives

or partitions are mounted or are not mounted at startup. Can I do this

in Windows? How can I set Windows to NOT mount a partition?

Workarounds for mounting windows partition linux

linux partition erased by windows update

    Well, it happened
    again
. The unallocated 252.00 Gib section is where my old ubuntu installation's /home folder resided. Luckily this time I already had copied all my important files to another distro in another harddrive. Or else I'd have to spend 3 days recovering everything
    again.

Will microsoft ever fix it ?

    Technical:

As windows supported only 4 main paritions, I had only 1 HDD & wanted my /home folder on separate drive from my / due to distrohopping habbits, I partitioned the drive in the following way.

    • linux /
    • windows C:
    • windows diag
    • extended
      • linux /home
      • windows D:
      • windows E:
