  1. Sleep power option similar to MacOS for external monitor?

I often use my laptops connected to an external monitor and external power with the laptop lid closed. Is there a way to mimic the sleep behavior of a Mac laptop when connected to external monitor and external power when the lid is closed?

    • Windows 10 can be told to "do nothing' when the laptop lid is closed if the laptop is plugged in to external power source. But this also has the effect of leaving the laptop powered up and running with the lid closed if external power is connected ... whether or not there is an external monitor connected.
    • MacOS is smart enough to keep the Mac running with lid closed and external power connected but then put the Mac to sleep if it cannot detect an external monitor. If the external monitor is not there, the Mac will sleep.

Windows 10 does not seem to have this ability. Or am I missing this setting somewhere?

  2. sleep mode and power options not working on Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Forums.

For issues with sleep mode and power options follow the steps provided below.

Run the Power troubleshooter and check.

Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

    • Open Control Panel.
    • Type Troubleshooting in search and click
      Troubleshooting.
    • Now type Power in the search option.
    • Click on Power troubleshooter to run.

I would suggest you to try updating the Display driver and check if the issue persists. If you already have all the latest drivers from Windows updates, then I would suggest you to visit the computer manufacturer's website, download and install the latest
drivers in compatibility mode and check.

    Hope this helps.

    Sleep option

    Hi John,

The issue might be due to a disabled sleep to show in Power menu
    option in Control Panel.

We would like to ask for some information:

    • Did you get any error messages?
    • Can you provide us with a screenshot?

In the meantime, please check if the sleep to show in Power menu
option in Control Panel is enabled using the steps below:

    • Type Control Panel on the search box and press Enter.
    • Select System and Security, then Power Options.
    • Click on Choose what the power buttons do.
    • Put a check-mark on the Sleep-Show in Power menu box.

We will wait for your response.

Sleep power option similar to MacOS for external monitor?

External monitor not recognized at power up or waking from sleep

I have a Lenovo Yoga 720 laptop that does not recognize the presence of an external monitor unless I disconnect/reconnect the cable between the laptop and the monitor. Yoga 720 has USB-C port for external monitor. I use a Lenovo USB-C/HDMI adapter + HDMI
cable to external monitor. The laptop will not recognize the presence of an external monitor after power up or after waking up from sleep. The monitor status screen reports it is not receiving any signal. Problem occurs with HP and Philips external monitors.
After disconnecting/reconnecting the HDMI cable, the laptop recognizes the presence of the external monitor and automatically switches to dual monitor operation. Windows 10 + drivers are all up to date.
