Windows 10: How do I uninstall Edge/OneDrive/Skype?

I have searched around, but all the supposed "solutions" I've found don't work.



I have never used Microsoft Edge, and have no intention to, but it still runs in the background on my system all the time. Most of the time it has many copies of itself running in the background (I've counted as high as 16 before), these background processes sometimes take up several hundred MB of RAM, and use processing power.



I have tried uninstalling Edge, but within 10-15 minutes it somehow reinstalls itself and respawns the background processes. One time after I uninstalled Edge, Edge launched itself to display a web page stating "Microsoft Edge is now removed from your system", at this point I feel like Microsoft is just laughing at me. After Edge reinstalls itself, it pins itself to the taskbar and will not let me uninstall again until I kill all the background processes, claiming that I have Edge windows open.



I often see background processes for Skype and OneDrive too (OneDrive often sending a lot of data via the network, slowing down my connection and making my laptop sound like an airplane engine). I don't have Skype or OneDrive installed on my system - they're not in the Add or Remove programs screen, and they don't have entries in Program Files or Program Files (x86). Searching via the windows start menu for Skype finds the app, and gives me an option to Uninstall it, but when I choose this option is takes me to the Add or Remove Programs screen, where Skype is not listed. Opening the file location of the Skype app takes me to a shortcut which then links to "lync.exe" within Microsoft Office. Searching for OneDrive via the start menu provides no results.



How do I uninstall these apps? OneDrive is the main priority for me to remove, because I have no idea what data it's sending, I've denied access to all Microsoft Telemetry data when asked, and have been through my privacy and security settings to make sure Windows doesn't have my permission to send any of my files etc anywhere. Edge is the next priority, primarily due to the RAM usage. Skype is the lowest priority, but is none-the-less an annoyance.

Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

 

Unable to uninstall Onedrive For Business

OneDrive can be uninstalled from some versions of Windows 10:

1. Select the Start button, type Programs in the search box, and then select Add or remove programs in the list of results.
   
2. Under Apps & features, find and select Microsoft OneDrive, and then select Uninstall.
   

As OneDrive is built in to some versions of Windows and can't be uninstalled. As a workaround, you can hide it. Reference “Turn off or uninstall OneDrive” for detail steps:

Removing Skype and disabling or removing One Drive

It seems that, some of the third party application is conflicting with the system files, which leads computer to process slowly.

As an initial step, I suggest you to Run maintenance task,
and check if the system works properly.

The Run maintenance task checks issues that might slow down your computer's performance or using high memory space, such as how many users are currently logged on to the computer and whether multiple programs are running at the
same time.

Follow the below steps.

• 
  Press Windows + X on the keyboard.
  
• 
  Select Control Panel.
  
• 
  Select Troubleshooting.
  
• 
  Click on Run maintenance task under
  System and Security.
  

To uninstall Skype and OneDrive from the system, follow the below steps.

Step 1: Uninstall Skype app.

1) Right click on the Skype app.

2) Select the Uninstall option.

(Note: If you are redirected to Program and feature Windows after selecting uninstall then, again right click on the Skype and select Uninstall)

Step 2: Uninstall OneDrive.
